Yes, an infinite amount of chances. I believe that people have a right to be given the chance to change; deeming them incurable is something I, personally, find disgusting. Reminds me of the days when lobotomies where an overused medical treatment.

so if someone kept breaking into your house and stealing your wallet, and they kept getting a slap on the wrist and then released and continued to break into your house and steal your wallet, you would let them continue to do that infinitely? -
dork1877
Yes, as each time I would report them to law-enforcement. Due to how both ECC's and most other legal system works, the punishments will scale indefinitely. I suffer no consequence either, as in both systems I will either get repaid, or the criminal will be removed from society; both are acceptable outcomes. -
the criminal is not getting removed from society in the case of the ECC community.
they are left to keep violating over and over
and
they don't have to pay back the money they scammed, so your analogy is false there too. -

I'd rather have temp bans that just keep getting longer, then any perma ban whatsoever.
After the 8th offense and, for example, a 3 month temp ban, eventually temp bans will get to a length where, it doesn't matter much anymore. But the option to turn around, and stop scamming and become a better member of ECC is still there. -

Hello,
This is false. 1st of all we give them tempbans that vary depending on severity of their actions, prior offenses, and other mitigating factors. Sort of the like how the US court system determines a sentence and how high bail should be.
Secondly, we require them to pay back the money if they scammed. We give them exactly a week to repay the money and if they don't, they get rebanned. That is how the ECC Staff Handled scammers appeals.

Thecreator767 BuilderBuilder ⛰️ Ex-President ⚒️⚒️Dork is right, they are getting continuously banned sometimes and don't learn that it's not right to do that.

It makes me sick to think people support serial scammers. We are all in this for fun, so why is griefing an immediate permaban when scamming, also layed out in the rules, not? They are nearly the exact same thing, but scamming takes so much more. It irritates me to see these people on ban/complaints playing it off as "I didn't mean to." Or "omg ill pay you back don't ban me." It becomes a hastle, and if this is the type of people who make staff "busy". (Busy is in quotes because half the time the job of staff is to say "contract approved", "use correct format") We need to stop being lenient because to be honest if we keep the bad people around to take down, shove and throw away all the good people, what will we have? Does this community really need to suck so bad with jerks and people who think they can do whatever they want just because "they can turn around" or "they deserve infinite chances." Nobody deserves to suffer for their behavior and if it continues, even if cussing, scamming or other useless crap nobody can care for, than they don't know the rules they so many times were told to read and to agree and they should just get out of our community.
We don't have the genuine time for scums. -
I understand they work hard for free, it's just I personally don't think they are awfully "busy" as I see them being more casual with the popular people more often then being staffy

This thread continues to be a scammer hating thread.
I can't tell any of you what to believe, but I can say, suggestions aren't likely to be added without a lot of level-headed points being made, not just a ton of "Seriously!?!? Get rid of scammers?! Why would we even want them?!!?!" -

Alrighty this thread is getting very out of hand so far.
First of all
The purpose of these links were NOT to single people out. If you look closer it was to show that your point was wrong. Scammers are REQUIRED to repay money or they will be rebanned. Scammers are given tempbans and removed from the community and then given a set period of time to pay back the financial debt they have incurred to another player.
Considering you feel that it is singling players out I will be removing the links and Mod Editting your singled out names. The links were examples, not pointing fingers.

I may be wrong in those specific instances (at least they haven't done it again.. yet), but my point was that I could find similar examples where users generated a long history of scams, didn't have to pay a dime back, and then came back to the server to do the same thing again. -

AgentHare Staff are not just staff. We are not simply here all day every day for the SOLE purpose of helping other players. We all ARE players to. We have friends. We have ECC lives. I own 20 towns and have 3 projects. I work my but off farming/mining daily WHILE trying to help other players.
Further
This is false. Griefing is not a perma ban. Only one thing is an instant perma ban and even that is appealable if you fit certain criteria. We do not hand out perma bans to every griefer on the server, that would be ridiculous. We give griefers second chances just like scammers.

dork1877 To be fair, I'm sure even I could find those cases. Why? Because the system we are currently using for handling scammers is only 2-3 months old. Which is why if you look back far enough you could find cases where this is true. Yet, if you look at cases from the last few months you will find this is now a falsehood. Just like with the Supreme Court, we are always fluctuating and finding new ways to handle things. This is our new precedent. This is how we handle things now.
-
To be fair, some of those weren't that long ago, and I didn't even mention specific one in the not too distant past because I was trying to list the big offenders.
Well since the system is new, I guess I need to be patient to see if it works.
I don't quite understand the difference between the new and the old, and I don't expect it to be explained to me. But I remain skeptical that it will make any appreciable difference in the behaviors of the serial scammers.
From my perspective as a member of the community, until something more draconian is enacted, I don't see anything changing. But then again, I'm a skeptic. I hope the new system works. But my hope pales in comparison to my assessment of the past.
