We don't really need rules, if I'm doing a giveaway, it's my money. I never said I would give it to Bob123, so if I don't want to give it to anyone, tough, I never agreed to give it to any certain person. So far we've never had any real problems with someone making a huge giveaway and then going "Wait, nevermind."
Even if necessary, we could tell them to knock it off due to trolling.


I can see a "suggested" guideline happening, like the way it is here in the suggestion forums, but for a giveaway guideline, well, I don't really think it's needed. We can't really force you to give away your stuff. If I say I was going to give away 50k, and then lost that money, would you ban me, make me appeal, earn back all that money, and hand it off to a random person?

I'd hate to see people get banned for saying they were giving away cash, and then changed their mind due to reasons or ect.


Deep down, these people are handing you the most prized thing in all of EcoCityCraft, their money. You really want to make it harder for me to give away, for free, chunks of money, for nothing in return?

 

Basically scamming? Where in my giveaway post did I agree to give my money to you? Sure, I said I'd give it away, but I never agreed to give it to a certain person. You can't file a scamming complaint because I didn't pay you.

And that forum has been around since 2011, no, it hasn't always had giveaways, but we've never had a problem with it before.

There's no need to jump to conclusions.

 

How is it scamming? What do you lose if a person decides he can't continue with a give away?

 

Well... I'm on my 7th straight giveaway, so I can give a bit of the view of someone who actually is giving out money. I personally have a couple HUGE giveaways coming up, and am already saving for them. Because of how large these are, I'm actually not sure if I can do them, but I plan on trying anyway. If I knew that I was going to be banned if I couldn't meet the standards I'd set for myself, I probably wouldn't have even started giving away money, it just seems like too much of a risk. I view giveaways more as a trade advertisement, you can be offering to do 200$ ereps, but you don't HAVE to do them I someone asks.

Giveaways are giving your money away for free, there's no binding factor that makes it so you actually need to give that money away. While I will never back out of one myself unless I absolutely have to, I really would hate to see this happen. Just think about it; you'd be getting banned for not giving away money...

 

In real life there is no accountability if a celebrity says "I'm going to give $100,000 to (insert charity here)," and then doesn't. You can't force someone to give away their money for free, thats just silly.

That being said, the community will sure not be happy with it if they don't lol. But that doesn't mean we should force them to do it.
