Is it bad that my first instinct was to rate this funny?

 

I am against this.

A user is allowed to rate a thread whatever they feel necessary. If you find it offensive/annoying just ignore it. There is nothing wrong with rating a thread or post with something you feel it should be rated.

 

If it causes an issue, which I have seen under ban appeals and complaints, I would rather have it removed. It seems kind of silly to warn someone for their sense of humor.

Everyone has their own sense of humor.

 

Another thing if you really want this removed would be to suggest the following;

Only allow certain ratings per post which could be added/edited in the more options area. I am not sure if it is possible, but could be looked into.

 

Im scared to post funny because if this suddenly becomes a rule and I get banned.

 

Evidently Ducky_Momo16 found this post hilarious. According to your suggestion, I should warn him as this post was not intended to be funny, but he found it funny anyway due to his sense of humor.

You see? He would be punished off of his sense of humor, which wouldn't make sense.

I remember that in school, you generally were not going to be shoved in a garbage can unless you asked not to be shoved in a garbage can. If you cried, screamed, or showed other signs of distress like telling a teacher, you were giving a response seen as a positive by the bully.

I think misusing the ratings can be misinterpreted as bullying, but I also appreciate the darker side of humor.

If you don't like it, ignore it because they're just being silly and dumb. They'll be less likely to do it to you in the future.

If you think it's funny, have fun being silly with everyone who thinks it's funny, because everyone can use a good laugh.

When it escalates to abuse beyond that, whether threats or openly mocking the poster, that's an issue the mods should be worried about and warning offenders. Even rating things funny in the ban appeals board can be abusive, as the poster is usually pretty emotional. Being silly and being maliciously disrespectful are usually pretty obvious, have completely different motive, and must be dealt with case by case as blanket rules are futile. A bully will always find ways to bully.
