    Minecraft Name: XunHongWu

Suggestion: Don't wipe inventory or enderchest (Server File Cleanup Policy).

Reason: Give us something that is permanent storage. Towns can be claimed and inactive LWCs are cleared yearly. I want to feel safe putting my star tools in my inventory or enderchest and knowing I can keep them forever.I think every user would agree with me.

Any Other Information: I get it, we save space and reduce lag on the server but is this really needed with our current player count? Our player count has dropped since this was implemented so how much space and lag are we really saving?

Link To This Plugin/Is this a custom addition?:

-1 Read the cleanup policy. You can keep them on your person safely if you keep enough money in your /bal, /homes set, etc.
Making this permanent for everyone would create the same problem we had before the lwc cleanup, lag.

    /bp?

(I'm pretty sure I read that backpacks aren't affected by the cleanup (and the way the cleanup functions would support that), but I won't guarantee that I'm right.)

Backpacks are the permanent solution for storage. They are not cleared, ever.
Without clearing inventories/enderchest (playerdata in code terms) we could have an unmanageable volume of files to back up, as we've had well over 2m unique player joins. Each one would have a file.

So if I'm understanding this right, we had 2 million player data files and the file cleanup policy cleared the inactive ones. We used to get many unique members each day but now that number has dropped greatly. I don't know how many unique players we're getting now but I'm sure it's no where close to 2 million anymore. I have a hard time understanding how the player data files can take up so much space with our current player count. It's also just silly that your conclusion boils down to "pay money if you want permanent storage".

Please correct me if I'm wrong but to my understanding the file cleanup policy only affects balance, homes and current location. After 14 days your armor/inventory resets. @JamieSinn @314

So what I'm hearing is... Pay if you want permanent storage?
That's ridiculous in my opinion, just as ridiculous as not being able to open dispensers unless you pay. (Water & Pyro)

+1. We are in great need of this. As @XunHongWu said, the player count isn't as high as it was when the cleanups were implemented.
I don't think we should remove the ckean up policy - just edit it so that enderchests at least are a safe spot.

Read the cleanup policy. I believe at only 100k in your balance you don't get wiped for a full year. Logging in once per year is very reasonable.

That is correct; the inventory/enderchest wipe is not affected by those factors and will clear after two weeks.

What about people who are financially troubled and can't get 100k? Or those who've stored their money in their forum bank?

The issue isn't about space. When backing up files for our backups, you have to iterate over every single file and copy it over. It's a well known fact that transferring hundreds of small files (which the data files are, they're 6kb on average) takes longer than transferring large files. (feel free to look the actual numbers up, it's well published) we have had this cleanup policy since ecc was created, and the reason we've been able to keep running is partly because of it. We've had 2m unique joins total, of which, 30k stayed enough to create a forum account. The forum is the central location for us, as you cannot progress in the game without it, having unique joins means nothing in terms of player retention.

I'll be happy to wait for Andrew to say no since you don't like my answer, but I digress.

It's not space, really. It kind of is, but space is pretty trivial. Think of the file storage as a library - if you're looking for a specific book it's going to be way easier to find that book out of 500 rather than 5000 or 50000.

I also don't see how "pay money if you want permanent storage" is at all unreasonable. There's a plainly stated file cleanup policy for you to work around and if you don't want to work around it I think it's a fair option

So... the policy exists because you don't have the patience when backing up files?

If andrew says no, it's ridiculous.
Is it that hard for you guys to add some sort of permanent storage solution that is free?

Kinda like when people want icing on their cake... Be happy with the cake.. icing may cost extra.

Basically they work hard to provide you an awesome Minecraft server that anyone can play at any time 24/7 for free. Is it perfect? Ofcourse not, however you have the choice to play or go somewhere else... Trust me... I’ve lost plenty from being inactive due to the file clean up and wipes. It sux but it’s my fault for not doing my part... Andrew gives plenty of warning and details how to avoid losing your stuff..

If you are still not satisfied...then... as noted above you have an option to purchase an alternative. You are not forced to. I have seen much worse on many servers. ECC is one of the last public run servers to offer basically a free SMP experience in my opinion.

But sure let us bother Andrew while he is on holiday anyway... I’m sure he would be happy to put down his beer to explain why he can’t make every single Minecraft player happy for the 100th time!
