Minecraft Name: Obblebobble
Suggestion: To add copyrights to ECC, with restrictions. As seen below:
Reason: So basically I've seen many attempts to copyright things on ECC. With very poor execution, there's also been a suggestion about this recently and I didn't agree with some of the content. Here's a link for reference: http://www.ecocitycraft.com/forum/t...patent-things-made-invented-by-a-user.134436/
Alright, now what am I suggesting?
- A simple and enforceable copyright system for players of ECC at any rank, or resident and above.
- Reasonable reasons for copyrighting
- Reasonable rules for copyrights
- Non-vague copyrights such as "Fishing towers" or "Building Companies" or certain casino games.
- PLEASE NOTE: Copyrights can be renamed to Name Protection, or something similar.
Basically, all copyrights will be is to stop people using your "company name" on ECC. You can't copyright big ideas, if you have a unique casino game then it's free game. If you give loans, you can't copyright a bank idea. If you have a certain store franchise, you can't copyright your store ideas.
However, you CAN copyright the name of your companies. In my personal examples, Lucky7 Casino and Vault of ECC. Both 2 businesses I run, both with their own names. One is a casino, ECC has many. The other gives loans and offers investments, many people give loans (Haven't seen investment opportunities though). So what can I copyright?
- Lucky7 Name
- Vault of ECC Name
What can't I copyright?
- Casinos
- Casino Games
- Loans/Loan ideas
- Investment ideas
- Interest rates
- Advertisements (names excluded)
Basically just for those people who have a business that is in multiple locations around ECC and wish to protect their name from being copied and stolen. This new business that steals the name immediately gets the existing companies reputation in a sense, business names are extremely important when showing trustworthiness and history of being an overall strong business.
I understand this will likely be declined. We'd need a new set of rules regarding copyrights. Here are a few requirements:
- $25,000 / $40,000 / $50,000 for copyrights, either of those 3 prices per copy right (Or 25k for your first, 40k for 2nd, then 50k for third).
- Perhaps a maximum amount of copyrights per person, even per rank? Gives a slight benefit to Ecoleader, Ecomaster, Ecolegend and Tycoon. This means (assuming we start at resident) an Ecolegend has 7 copyrights available.
- Cannot copyright ideas... too hard to enforce. Just the name
- Names cannot be too vague (Casino, Bank, Shop, Market, ECC Real Estate, ECC Towns, etc.) Must be unique, as decided by staff members. Example Vault of ECC, Lucky7, LapkingCasino, various nation names on ECC, etc.
- Upon requesting a copyright on a name, you must show prior history of using this name. You can't copyright a name you don't already use. Once again, I apologize for using my own business examples, but if we take Lucky7 you can see that it was registered by me as a town name with my president application, has a town warp, has a big casino built there with a large golden sign in gold blocks saying Lucky7. I'd have to provide links to screenshots and my president application to show that I actively use this name. If somebody else has already used this name (after I created it) without my permission, I'd also have to show that I came up with it first.
- It's not whoever registers a copyright first gets the name, as said above, proof of prior ownership would be needed.
- Stealing names is not immediately bannable, perhaps a request to change the name then if the user declines we move forward. Essentially like contracts, resolution before punishment.
- Other rules can be established, and the above can be changed.
Any Other Information: Above.
Link To This Plugin/Is this a custom addition?: N/A. Wiki rules + forum is all that's needed.

To the point...
-1 The problem lies that the whole "Copyright" idea conflicts with the real world a little to much and can give people the wrong idea. As I mentioned in a comment below, naming this something else could make this work and less conflicting and confusing with what "Copyright" is really associated with (Its already confused myself, as shown in Kukele's friendly comment).-

Anyway, I like the concept of having brandname copyright/protection. +1-

Well I did an i'm intitled to my own opinion.
I think the whole "copyright" area/title is a little to touchy.
Maybe if it was named something else that isn't confusing Copyright and an altered "Copyright" EcoCityCraft assosiated concept, such as Name Protection (E.G). That way it's divided from what many people interperate as "Copyright" and have a better chance of passing unlike the past one like Obble stated. -

It can definitely be renamed. However, like I said it's only for names nothing else, no ideas or common things.
-
this is the exact opposite of what people want
we want to be able to own our ideas, not names...
no one is going to copyright Dccciz's Store -
Obblebobble Vault of ECC - FounderBuilder ⛰️ Ex-President ⚒️⚒️ Premium UpgradeI know people want to copyright ideas but it's not practical, it's easier in the real world because there's so many more opportunities. If you copyright fishing towers for example, all other fishing towers would need to be removed and it'd heavily affect things.
Some names people want copyright on, when you have multiple businesses with your same name around, people may try to copy them. Sure not if your shop name is "Username store" that's un-original, if you have a unique name and it's very popular chances are it may get stolen. -

It would have to have so many different limitations, and it's still practically impossible to enforce or regulate.-

I think this has been suggested before and was not implemented due to the difficulty of managing something like this in a game.
I feel your protection is already guaranteed since you have the town name Lucky7 - anybody else would be foolish to use that now as any player warping to "Lucky7" is coming to your casino (or you can let them advertise for you :p) -
Obblebobble Vault of ECC - FounderBuilder ⛰️ Ex-President ⚒️⚒️ Premium UpgradeWe have plans, one underway, to create casinos around the map of ECC in various towns. Hence the issue, same would go for other people's ideas and businesses.
Sure the warp /lucky7 is "taken" but there's other risks. I linked the only suggestion I could find on copyrights, and it was denied because they wished to copyright ideas also. I'm just after names :) -

Is there seriously a need? How many times have someone tried using the name of something you made up? While this might prevent people from doing things like that, how many times would it happen anyway? It would mostly just confuse users more then anything else.

Since when was the last time someone copied a name of a business? People won't do it because it often leads to confusion among other things.

I actually have seen and been involved with issues that relate to this. Situationally speaking, the issue at hand is more of a system of intentional deception or unoriginal enterprise that can tarnish other players' reputations.
Consider this: A resident decides to build a small, poorly crafted casino in a town he/she doesn't even own and names it Lapking's Casino under the guise that the actual Lapking's Casino is successful so theirs will be too. This is entirely legal. The resident advertises that they are running Lapking's Casino and when players see their shoddy work, some may get the impression that it actually is the real casino and that would hurt Lap's business. Similarly, the resident could be running a fixed game at their casino and that could inadvertently hurt Lap's reputation.
Or you could get permission to restart the ECC Shark Tank, then afterwards some kid could start another shark tank under the same name, fail rather humorously, then you'd have people messaging you saying, "Steve, your new Shark Tank blows" and you'd be like, "It's not mine, some kid just took the name of it and blew it on his own."
Maybe I'm a little biased because of my personal involvement in the issue, but I do think this is an entirely reasonable and feasible rule to implement.

ScarabCoder BuilderBuilder ⛰️ Ex-Mayor ⚒️⚒️Are you saying that this happened to you? Normally you can just ask the player who is using your name to stop using it.... It hurts everyone including the person who is using your name. I have never seen or heard of anyone copying someone else's name, and I don't think copyrights will get added unless it really becomes a problem.

Players will not always be so easily persuaded to change their business names upon a single request. Referring to the hypothetical situation I used, the player will still find success - albeit minimal - from their deception, while the player who's name was taken will see far more negative consequences due to the infringement.
I don't mean to break out the experience card, but I've been around the block a few more times than you, and this actually happens more often than one might think.-
