I'm sure that we all remember the recent(ish) donation scam that occurred. Millions of EcoDollars were donated by the community along with some money from the lotto tax.
This was a great thing that the community did, but I got to thinking about it and I think that we should do something like this for every single scam. In my opinion a good way to do this is to set up an official scam fund. Say at spawn Andrew/Phys make a sign where it lets you donate money to the fund, and then someone is scammed, money would be taken from that fund and given to the scam victim.
    - This would not cause inflation as it would be made up of user donations
    - Scam victims would suffer far less
    - It's a thing that can bring people together
    - If we have a centralised fund, a large amount of money can be saved up

This is a good idea, but there's one key issue you may want to address:

The scam you mention involved a permabanned user who has a very little, if any, chance to return and so would not be paying back his/her victims.

A lot of scams do not involve permabans, so the perpetrator could appeal. Would he/she then be required to pay back the money (noting that the victims were paid by this "fund)?

If so, then where would any excess money go? If it is given to the victims in addition to any money they received from the fund, they could end up making an unfair profit off this.

If not, then the scammer is not really "punished" since he/she does not have to spend the time paying back the users they hurt.

    For now: -1

Yes it's possible for someone to appeal and they would pay U back therefore they get double money which is dumb

    Agreed.

Also, different problem... if people knew there was a fund to replace money lost in scams, they would take a lot more risks which would potentially lead to more scams and an additional strain on the fund.

This. This is the reason I don't like the idea of any official server-backed fund. The only times I think it's necessary is when it's about giant scams that involve dozens of people and millions of dollars. And those times it's big enough that the community itself decides to pitch in and get everyone paid back (point in case, the willclo fund)

When people have a sure-fire way to get their money back when they get scammed, then they're more willing to take the risks, making scams more common. It's rewarding ignorance.

Now this is a truly amazing post. If the scammer is banned, and has scammed at least 1000k (1 mil), maybe the scammer will have to pay it back. Otherwise, there would be scams every day. I'm +1 with kuke, but don't completely agree with paying back every scam made..
