Solution: Implement the Shout to only allow 1 shout ever 10 seconds. ECC still gets the money, The community gets the no-spam everyone wins.
Every 10 seconds? not enough. Every 120 seconds? I could agree with that Realistically, what could be so important that everyone needs to see it a possible 6 times a minute that would be coming from a non-Staff member? I really like the idea of being able to disable Shouts or have the ignore command extend into Shouts. I'm even willing to pay for it, USD or ECD I don't mind the spamming of the Alert system because a) only Staff can use it and b) The vast majority of the time, it's used for server-wide info broadcasting that everyone NEEDS to see, such as server restarts, etc.
every 2 minutes is WAY LONGER then something that is going to happen. 10 seconds allows people to still advertise/congratulate people multiple times, but not take up the entire chat.
That's just totalitarian. Now we're limiting the amount of shouts people can shout? Yep, that is totally normal. Just don't pay attention to it, or just keep doing what you're doing. I have OCD and understand that it is very, very difficult to do so, but, just hit F1 for a few seconds, and I'm sure you'll be fine.
I still think if we have a user ignored we shouldn't be able to see their shouts. That was part of this suggestion, as well.
I still strongly disagree with that. Unless they are harassing you, they are in full compliance with the rules.
Making every shout 120 seconds is absurd. I'm sure having the chat off setting or F1 on for a couple seconds will save you.
So I think this is an interesting discussion. Though for all the people arguing about money taken out of the economy: Look at the number of shouts being made. Shouts are certainly not a major thing taking money out of the economy, compared to, well really anything else. So why not a middle ground: Make shouts more expensive. Say, double the price. People who don't want to see shouts will see less, or smile in satisfaction about more money leaving the economy/balances of those or shouted. Before you argue "less people will shout"... which, if we double the price, doesn't matter as long as half as many shouts are being made. If the amount of shouts made decreases by less than 50%, that means that there's actually more money being taken from the economy. People will still shout, whether it be spur of the moment or they wish to advertise.
You just contradicted yourself. If shouts are not common at all, why is this even an issue? Because one shout got spammed, and someone got upset? Or just multiple shouted something? This is very, very confusing.
How so? Please tell me, knears; have you ever ignored a user? And why did you ignore them? I don't want a debate like response, respond to the question please.
Why is this an issue? Because there are very clearly people on this thread who don't like shouts. If it wasn't an issue this thread and this debate would not be happening at all. Just because something is uncommon doesn't mean we can't make it less common.
I have never ignored a user before. If they are in compliance with the rules and are not flame baiting, nor are they harassing a user, they are in full compliance with the rules. Copied directly from the wiki: Clause 1.1 - CAPS and Spam Bypassing our CAPS filter and/or typing in all caps is not allowed. Spam is not allowed. Repetitive words, letters, symbols that aren’t used in their correct context, or many messages sent quickly are considered spam. Clause 3 - Harassment Harassment constitutes as any form of action (chat or game play wise) that makes another player feel threatened or otherwise ruins their game play. Griefing in the wild does not constitute harassment. Harassment in the wild is strictly chat/command based. This includes, but is not limited to; blackmail, bullying or any other form of harassment that occurs through our chat system. Attempting to kill other players in any non-PvP zone also constitutes as harassment, and succeeding in killing other players in non-PvP areas is a very severe offence that will result in a ban. Harassment is absolutely inexcusable on EcoCityCraft. If you are engaging in this behavior expect to be removed from the server with little to no warning. Disrespecting staff falls under this rule - They are players too.
Yet, 67% of the participants in the thread are AGAINST the implementation of the suggestion. I thought we were democratic here. Why don't you make a survey for it, and then we can go from there to figure out a solution. But catering to the minority makes no sense. You're not using arguments, rather, going after my reputation. Please give me a coherent argument using the rules that logically proves your point.
Perhaps thats the case, but if you take into account some of the people who were against the suggestion were against it on terms that it would lessen the amount of money taken from the economy (which 5 of the people posting on this thread have touched on at least), it would likely favor limitation using my suggested means. Catering to the minority might not make sense, but why not attempt to find a solution that the majority might actually like? Not even trying to find something makes no sense.
