Minecraft Name: a18greek18 Suggestion: 1) Change the ban appeal system so that Moderators can post on appeals telling the banned user a few simple things. 2) Stop posting messages with only a tag of higher up staff members. It may work to help staff, but it doesn't help the banned user know about the status of their appeal. Add a little something to go with the tag. Make it more friendly. Do something. 3) Stop saying things like "Keep all irrelevant posts off this appeal." It looks very unprofessional. Just delete irrelevant posts, and if you notice a user abusing this then give them a forum warning. Reason: This system seemed to work very well in the past. The banned users got fast replies on their appeals from Moderators telling them a few important things, and the banned player knew that their appeal was being reviewed shortly. Don't really know why it stopped happening, as it was quite effective. It doesn't take much time to write a concise paragraph to someone. A little effort goes a long way. Stop being lazy. Mods should have a format to post saying: Thank you for filing an appeal. Tagging the proper staff group to handle it: @Admin We will handle the appeal when we get to it. Appeals are not the highest priority Please do not bump your appeal.
+1. This is infinitesimally better than our current system and really helps the process seem lots more forumal.
Why though? What's wrong with the current system? I really don't see the need to have a moderator reply to an appeal with a literally cosmetic response. Players just have to be patient and their appeal will be handled soon.
Because it makes us look more professional than a simple comment that literally anyone could write. Add a bit of spice!
What's wrong with the current system? The whole "staff-community connection" is what's wrong with it. Staff are treating appeals more and more like a processing unit, feeding players through it over and over again. The system has become factory-esque. Spice it up a little.
It's factory-esque because the same people are always being processed. Maybe one day they'll come out as something tasty?
Because you need appropriate staff who are going to handle the appeal to be alerted of it and you need to actually handle the appeal...? ^Not cosmetic responses. Appeals are a processing unit though. Players submit an application to get unbanned and staff handle the application. Appeals should be straight to the point, small talk in them is pointless. It's an application, not a place to interact.
The last thing we want is robotic staff. They should touch upon all of these but they shouldn't say the same thing every time. And @UnitedStates2 - it isn't "cosmetic". It informs the banned player about the rules they need to read, and actually sounds like a decent human being wrote it and not a robot. Anyway, here's what I think would be a good message: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello there @iStomp__Kittens. I'm glad to see you appealing your ban, as we take scamming very seriously here on ECC. As scamming is an offense that is only appealable to GameAdmins or higher, I am tagging them here: @Game Admin. Since appeals are our lowest priority, we will not handle this immediately. While waiting for a response, we'd like to you look at the rule for scamming: Thank you in advance for your patience. I'll leave this open for a response from a GameAdmin. For everyone else: if you have something to discuss with iStomp, please forum PM him instead. I sound like a broken record but forum warnings can and will be given if you post irrelevantly here. Left open for a GameAdmin.
The "same people" argument is irrelevant to this suggestion. In the past 24 hours 6 different players have posted ban appeals. None of whom have been banned multiple(3+) times.
Are you insinuating that the relevant staff are incapable of finding the Ban Appeal section on their own to see what they would need to handle?
The rules should be informed in the post that handles the appeal, not a post in advance. Sounding like a decent human doesn't really matter in appeals. This is an application, not a place where you interact with others.
To consider informing a user "interaction" is a serious stretch. If you can't sound like a professional, human moderator, why should banned users care to stay on the server if their appeals are denied?
Sure, they can find it however it's better to alert them in specific, as many higher up staff are quite busy, so alerting them can help them plan ahead.
Well it isn't a bad thing to alert them. But that is wholly irrelevant to the suggestion if they can't even know what was done wrong by looking at where they were tagged. Admins get a lot of alerts and just tagging them without any context makes their job a lot harder than it needs to be.
They are a processing unit to a certain extent, yes. But we are talking about real human beings here, not shoes that get produced in mass at factories. Interactions among human beings should not have a coded script. They should be real conversations, discussing the issues at hand, while maintaining a professional state of mind.
Just tag them in slack. If you really want to go out of your way to notify staffmembers then just PM them the links. That's what we had people do with hacking complaints back when unknown and I handled them. There's no need to really tag them. BUT, I do think there should be a post of sorts saying something along the lines of "thank you for appealing, your appeal will be handled by a GameAdmin. This might take some time, please be patient." It looks a bit more professional. Just a simple post with just a tag is confusing for most people who have no idea how ban appeals work. It's not like we only have repeat offenders appealing. Also point 3 in this suggestion is very important. There's no need to tell people not to post irrelevantly. It's in the rules. Just delete and warn the posts. Keep the section clean at all times.
