will_the_warrior , in my opinion this idea and solution of yours seems more complex than the system we already have in place. New players will get even more confused, not a good thing!

Thanks for you feedback. I am not claiming that the current auction system has any defects, simply suggesting a simpler, safer way to run user-to-user auctions, however I see where you're coming from. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

As in any situation, this is the Catch 22. The likelihood of this situation occurring is slim to none. In all my time on ECC, I have never see a melon sword (or similar item) make it through an auction without any bids (besides free).

Presently, I agree with your statement. Being that it is new and unfamiliar to the ECC Users, I can see where it may be considered complex. However, once implemented in the right way, it will be much, much simpler in the long run. I ran across 3-4 players yesterday asking how to run auctions. Members tried explaining that you just type it in /ch auc, but the players asking were confused and looking for a specific command. In the long run, I believe the auction plugin would be a lot easier for all members to understand. Thanks for the comment.

Again maybe it isn't a melon sword but perhaps it is an nstar same idea.

-1 for the simple fact that only 1 auction can be going on at a time. Its very easy to put up a troll auction and have one to two friends bid on the auction so nobody else can start their own auction till they finish. There are many people on ecc who like to troll and are usually in a big group. Say 4-5 people all start bidding on the same auction, then pay the money back. Even if rules were put into place it would be nearly impossible to find a troll auction from a real auction.

Also, its been denied alot so i dont see this happening. Im also not sure if the plugins you linked are open-sourced.

Sorry for my bad grammar and everything, its 3am and im tired.

I understand where you're coming from, but don't see this to be as much of a problem as you've made it sound. With an auction plugin, there is a set amount of time that the auction is running. Regardless of how many bids, after a certain amount of time, it's done. Also, to prevent users from abusing the auction system, there would be a restriction that users could only auction every 10 minutes or so. This would prevent users from deliberately abusing the system.

I don't see the addition of an auction plugin as being any more of an opportunity for troll that the current system. The plugin would also prevent false bidding, which causes a lot of problems with current auctions.

As far as the plugins, they are the framework for the new system, and if approved, would be modified to support some of the features mentioned above. I understand that this has been denied many times before, but I am hoping to offer a solution to every possible problem and integrate this into ECC. Thanks for your feedback.

Question: How are staff suppose to stop/regulate auctions if they are automated? How does one stop a troll auction when a plugin is controlling it? How does one enforce Andrew's new policy of 'No misleading auctions' with a system that can't be interrupted?

And on a personal note: How does one sell named items in an auction system like this?

The first question is very valid, especially given the opportunity to troll using the plugin. To combat the issue, a simple /auc end command would be coded into the plugin that would only be accessible by staff. This would terminate the current auction and return the item/money to the auctionee/bidder.

When auctioning named items, the plugin would still work the same way. The plugin runs the auction using the item ID rather than the item name. When renaming items using an anvil, the actual ID of the item does not change, thus making it still identifiable by the plugin. I see no issues with auctioning items that have been named.

Thank you very much for the feedback/questions.

It has come up many times, and will continue to be rejected on the grounds that auctions aren't always items for money.
There is also no rule that you need to accept a bid, only that the auction is finished once a bid is heard.

With an auction plugin you can enforce the money transfer, but not the 'service' provided.

When I offered to draft an 'auction' plugin for ECC which worked around these issues, for example short commands for auctioning an item in hand, or easy accepting offers. I was explicitly told by andrewkm that we would not require such as plugin, and I was not to ever work on that feature for ECC.
