Sometimes something might seem like coincidence and not result in a ban, therefore not resulting in a ban appeal. However, being able to see similar complaints lets a player know that this has happened in the past and they should therefore post a complaint. Also, complaints dont always result in a ban however sometimes that's only because a deal was worked out. Anyway, what I said above is really badly worded but hopefully you can see what Im trying to say.
What exactly would "seem like a coincidence"? Someone has either broken the rules, or they haven't :/
Is that worth the ones that become slanderous? If you answer yes we are two different people. @Whammerist5 is right
To give my honest opinion, this gives a false pretense of "anonymity" and might even cause more unintended problems. Sure, many of us want to be anonymous, but when action gets taken against the user whom the complaint was filed on, it's quite easy for them to figure out who filed the complaint especially in personal cases - This is a relatively small server where everyone knows everyone. As far as the unintended consequences go, many users will go to far lengths to figure out who reported them, this might as well lead to situations where a user who had absolutely nothing to do with the report getting harassed for being a "snitch". This is another potential problem we should be wary of. As far as completely privatizing the complaints section goes, the complaints section is public for a reason. It serves a way to offer a backround check on users - Just ban appeals may not prove sufficient in many cases, allows users to add additional evidence and post relevant information on that complaint - Staff don't know everything, and a bit of help from players can help them do their jobs properly. It also adds transparency to the server, something I'm personally a fan of. Complaints are public for a reason. If it really comes down to personal shit, you can forum an admin privately deal with it.
I haven't read the other replies so I'm unsure if anyone has mentioned this, but if you want to file a complaint anonymously you can just PM a staff member the issue, I always welcomed these messages when I was a mod, I'm sure others will too.
+1 This would only apply to certain offenses though. Stuff like scamming would need to be posted publicly, if a certain user has been pulling off many scams or has many debt complaints the public needs to see that to prevent more
Maybe the user posting the complaint could have the option of having it only visible to staff? Idk if my suggestion is possible, but +08!
This suggestion would have a negative impact in pretty much every complaint... The suggestion is not very good due to the reasons I posted previously. As for the personal attack by a relative... A) I'm pretty sure a relative wouldn't be dumb enough to do that on a minecraft server lol B) Private message a high up staff member and they can sort the situation out for you C) Ignore it D) If the info is posted in a public chat channel a mod would have already kicked/banned the player after their first message Your choice. All of the above are fairly simple things to do... I see no reason to post a public complaint, as the situation shouldn't be made public. Private messaging a staff member with special cases like this is perfectly fine, as the staff member would deal with the situation in a professional manner.
So you can't give me any examples at all? According to you, literally just find any random complaint, post it, and you should be right :/
I still agree with this. Some people have the tendency to get "salty" when someone files a complaint against them and then try to flamebait that user into breaking a rule, of file tons of complaints against them for very minor or false reasons.
I've changed my mind. I submitted a complaint for clear annoying rule breaking and the perpetrator mentioned me in chat, trolled on the complaint and all his friends came on to give me potato ratings. It was intended to stop me making complaints, I'm sure. He got a small slap on the wrist of course, which is another issue!
Exactly London, if I had realized that filing a complaint 1. left me totally open to retaliation and harrassment, 2. Was going to result in moderate finger wagging at best, and 3. that any retaliation would simply be handled with a "no, no please stop thank you " I would have never reported it. However upon filing a complaint about how it is handled I am led to believe hopeful policy changes will be made and I look forward to that helping. But anonymous complaints on basic rule breaking should absolutely exist, it needs to exist. And I understand it is a pain to change things but in the long run I think it will massively save moderator time and improve user experience. *edit* Im sorry if that comes off as excessively grumpy and rambly but I am bad at inflection in text.
