Maybe redsand would work for the block, if possible

 

Great Idea!!! but the falling part of it shouldn't work for clearing lava. If redsand is the "LavaSponge" then the falling feature of this block should be removed.

This would make mining much easier. You aren't able to mine under lava unless you do LOTS of extra work. If you could use sponges to clear lava pools, you would get 20-30% more ores.

What about just using the same sponge? If it's possible set it so you can place a sponge only if you have Pyro or Water features. Then if you place in lava without Pyro it just wouldn't "soak" it up, and vise versa.

 

Or set it up like flying and flying+... Maybe a Pyro++?

 

also a good idea, you need pyro to soak up lava, and water for soaking up water. Sponge should be in pyro kit, and water kit.

 

sponge like above OR non falling red-sand OR Red-stained-glass or blue because lapis is harder to get(and looks cool like ice frezzing the lava)

Ya know.. this woulda been nice to have when I had to clear 5 (yes, FIVE) pools of lava (2 above ground, 3 hidden at the level I was escavating to) pools of lava in my plains town.. ;| +1 from me.

 

Adding this in would be insanely helpful in clearing towns and making structures. The three major pains in clearing land is water, lava, and obsidian. Sponges already take care of lava, and adding them to remove lava would take care of the other two.

To be honest.. I actually dont think this should happen.. The sponges removing water makes sense, but I feel sponges removing lava is going too far, donation feature or not. This is Minecraft, and I dont believe everything should be done with one click of a button. I mean.. might as well just give everybody world edit and/or creative then, right? There needs to be some things left that actually require a little bit of time or "work". I may have used a 'bad reference point' there with the creative/world edit, but I'm having troubles explaining how I feel about stuff lately, so if you can comprehend what I'm trying to say, please let me know. xP It sounds like a cool idea but I feel like it's taking too much out of the aspect of minecraft itself.. but this is just my two cents.
