I understand that many, if not most users certain topics like Politics upsetting or uncomfortable (rightfully so given the current climate), but many users would also like to talk about them in a controlled environment with each other. I believe that if a separate chat channel could be used to host these discussions so it doesn't interfere with users that want to just stick with the general chat. The moderation would still be present to make sure nothing turned into a mess of uncivilized arguments but the chat would be there for users into more controversial topics to openly discuss without disturbing the rest of the server's population. Of course, rules would have to be followed in any case. I'm not sure what plugin is used to manage chat or if it's possible to make a channel opt-in, but I feel that this would be a better solution than either of the other two routes. I should've addressed this in the OP. I really don't see how it's fair that the only way people could speak about something outside the normal chat boundaries is locked behind a paywall. It's just my opinion but not everyone has a lot of money.
Thing is, most popular servers don’t allow talking about these topics anywhere. It’s fair that if you want to talk about them, pony up a few bucks.
You can buy features with in game money if you can find someone to pay with real. It’s done often, and if proper precautions followed is safe.
This is already implemented via "/ch vip" It's behind a paywall because I trust my supporters to keep some sort of civil discussion in there far more than random people who simply join the server to cause problems. PS: I like money, please fund my chocolate addiction. All donations on ECC go directly towards my chocolate binging habits. The server is run on solar power in the mountains of Siberia thus operation costs are $0.
