Having just been awarded a star rod, I agree completely. All those wooden and stone tools make me a sad panda. :(

I... don't think I would ever use this ability, I'm a terrible compulsive hoarder (I have a sign where I store sticks. I have no Idea why/when/where I will ever need 7k+ sticks and surely I would save much more time just discarding them and making them from scrap if I would ever need them, all the more so now that I have an eff10 axe. Please give me my medicine)

If all I want is dirt I usually put one dirt block in every open slot of my inventory and go nuts. Works for any block for that matter sand, stone, etc...You can also split it over grass and dirt if you want. Once I have what I want I go back and collect the junk sometimes. Glow stone is still a valuable commodity in my book and I can usually get a stack or 2. Haven't done this in a while so maybe it doesn't work with lag or what not. Just thought I would suggest it as an alternative while it's being considered.

 

There are times I only want dirt/grass and my inventory fills with everything else, even though I put the odd stuff in my enderchest, it's still a hassle. But there are also times I really enjoy getting the cakes and glowstone dust. So being able to freely toggle the drops off and on would be great. +1
