I didn't phrase that in the way I wanted, I apologize. What I meant however, is that even being eighteen you shouldn't swear, act up and actually show why you are called an adult. Being civilized is something that revolves around ECC, and swearing isn't civilzied in any manner. Also, I pointed out swearing because in the suggestion it says that everything else (Such as touchy topics) still isn't allowed, only swearing. Plus, only a slight portion of the server is over eighteen and a even bigger part of those would prefer to stay on ECC itself were they is no swearing than going on to another server (I was replying to the original suggestion, unless it has changed to a chat suggestion??) However, I'm not eighteen myself and I can see how opinions may vary.
I feel like the chat here has mostly switched to talking about a chat channel, however this thread is about the sister server which I feel everyone is in agreement about that not being a good idea.
Whatever is implied that makes it so I won't get banned from the game for words i'm all for. This is by far the most restricted game I have ever played, and am not used to it at all.
As kuke has already said, how can we moderate the age of people? If we had a sister server, this would cost andrew in general more money and just so you can have "civilized" discussions isn't really ideal. But for the chat channel, what would happen if the obvious, gleaming issue comes up. What if a younger, 9 year old/10 year old see this mature channel and joins it. Then they see cussing and thinking that it is for "mature" users they think if they used those words they will be mature. They will start cussing at nine/ten or younger and when parents ask them where they learned those words, where do you think they will blame? That being said, politics and other discussions are not banned due to younger kids, they are banned because it can grow hurtful and offensive. How will you know if a "mature" channels won't have rude people? You don't turn 18 and become the nicest person around. I don't see how younger kids make conversations "uncivilized" either. If it annoys you that much, than just ignore them. You don't have to listen, you don't have to care. Oh, and the final obvious mistake and contradiction with this in my opinion: Users who are older and probably will see themselves in this channel in my opinion are the most immature. I see 11/12 year olds behave better on this server than most older players do. That being said, there really wouldn't be a change for 18 year olds and being stuck with immaturity. You could add an application to get into the channel, but that will only cause more work for a very small part of the ECC population. It simply isn't worth it. A definite -1. Oh and people will take advantage of it as well ^
Are you implying that I am going to take advantage of the new server/channel? I don't know about you I guess you may be a little kid and your mommy and daddy don't let you curse or whatever, but being able to have the freedom to say something (non racist, sexist, insulting etc) without being hounded by moderators is a beautiful thing. You're in for a rude awakening once you play a different server bud.
Well, subtracting the non insulting curse words there will most likely be only 2-3 curse words you can actually use. It isn't rational to add a channel to say a few words. Furthermore, for your attack on me. I'm educated enough to understand that words deemed vulgar shouldn't be said. Due to our family friendly environment, I doubt a parent would want to look over the rules and let their 8 year old play when they see a channel where cussing is allowed. Also, you probably cuss because you think it makes you "rebellious" because otherwise there is absolutely no reason to. In my opinion, anyone who just has to cuss like you is a little kid wanting to be grown up. With that note, please grow up and I sure hope you do not act like this as an adult in the future. Finally, I have been on other servers. I've learned to ignore cussing. My opinion is based on the reason why the rule is in place which is our family friendly server.
If you read most of the posts here, most of us are referring to a new chat channel instead of the sister server.
I, as an adult, have the freedom to say whatever I please. Using "curse" words doesn't make me immature, as they are a part of my language. Curse words are no different than any other words. The only reason they are deemed bad, is because you were raised to believe so. Heck, my entire family uses "curse" words in everyday conversation with each other. Does that make my entire family immature? I don't think so. The language you use should not be what measures your maturity. That should be left to the way you treat others.
Words to not lead to how you treat others, however I understand that they can be used to mistreat others. But that goes for any non "curse" word as well. I could call some a "doody face", or I could call them a "$#!t face". Both phrases have the potential to be said with the same level of ill intent.
Do you wish to be a crystal perfect human being? No one is. Cursing is part of the english language and just because you're afraid that it will hurt peoples feelings shouldn't stop the rest of us from not worrying about being hounded by mods about english or topics that the average 10 year old ECC player base aren't allowed to hear. Tbh you should just stay with the 10 year olds if you want to be in a perfect little channel where you're restricted from the "curses".
-1 I know many young players who handle themselves better than some older players. Age doesn't necessarily equate to maturity You want to "chat" away from certain people? Make a town chat and invite only those you feel are "mature" enough to be in it. There doesn't need to be a server backed channel for this.
There does not need to be a new server just for chat. I think you should be able to apply to a chat channel where swearing is allowed, agreeing that users in the chat channel are allowed to use vulgar language.
I agree with you that many young users handle themselves as well as any mature adult does. However, I feel a place to fall back to to engage in less restricted conversation with other users of the same age would be nice to have.
