Suggestion: Put this thread in the join message you get when you join the server:

    https://ecocitycraft.com/forum/threads/preventing-supporter-feature-transaction-scams.58067/

Why: This is the 2nd time in 2 days I've seen someone try to buy a feature off a builder and get scammed.

I don't want to call anyone out but that is just a careless waste of money. Do you really think a builder that just joined the server 20 minutes ago would buy you a feature?

I guess I'm hoping that notifying people of this thread will hopefully get people to stop and think before they make transactions.

Scamming is the #1 biggest issue on here and if we can just get people to use some more common sense and learn then we can prevent many issues.

Most people who buy features already know this. Why would it help?

Yes, but we have many inexperienced residents on the server that are looking to get their first feature (TP, Multihome) and are much more gullible than a more experienced user.

Yeah, they help the economy by getting rid of poor people.

Or is that not what you meant?

I don't see how people quitting is good for the economy, lol. Scams are bad for the economy and the server. Don't be stupid.

From a monetary point of view scams are good. They remove money from our economy. That's common sense, lol. A first grade student could figure out that $10 subtract $2 would produce a lower number than the original, lol.

Scams also cause people to lose interest, which is the point of this suggestion I guess. I, however, don't see the point in giving people more notice than they already have about scammers. We have numerous scam related threads for a reason. Common sense is another tool SOME people have. Not all people have common sense though, sadly.

But what makes that GOOD for they economy? Less money in an economy doesn't automatically make it better. Removing extra money from an already balanced economy actually hurts it.

I don't know because this is obviously a problem right now but at the same time the server does not directly support ECD to USD exchanges for feats and therefore adding that to the join message would be kind of odd. I think that this situation might be best left as a hard lesson to learn unless policy regarding the support of these exchanges changes. If it did that might not be such a bad thing and maybe it could become required to use a middle man. But if someone is going to do one of these transactions they are either going to be wise enough to research how to go about it or they will learn a hard lesson about deals that seem too good to be true, some builder offering feats.

But it is not a good thing that it happens and if something could be done about it that would be good.

True, but who says our economy is balanced? Some players (not gunna say names) have millions upon millions stored away in secret locations. And when the time comes they could unload all of that money into the economy.

Justifying taking money away from the poor to retain the value of the money of the rich... sounds balanced to me. Checks out.

Again, who says poor people are the ones getting scammed? xD

You're making quite a few wrong assumptions here...

    My assumptions aren't wrong.

Poorer players trade more in comparison to their net worth than rich players.
Poorer players are more easily lured into the risky low-cost deals that frequently result in scams.
Poorer players lose more in comparison to their net worth than rich players.

Richer players simply don't get scammed most of the time. They may lose money or assets due to default, but in the context of this discussion, it's entirely different than an intentional scam.

Saying scamming is good for the economy is delusional.

Firstly, and most obviously, scamming hurts players. This decreases their playing experience and has them quit - And when they quit, they can't spend money and interact with the player market, can they?

Furthermore, scamming reduces the supply of money available for loaning and increases the interest rate due to increased risk, thus making it expensive to borrow. And what happens when less people borrow? The money that would be lent generally gets saved, and when money is saved, there isn't any economic activity or player interaction.

Also, as others have said, the poor get scammed more often than the rich. And you know who spends more money? The poor, obviously. The rich save money - the poor spend money - They buy nether stars in an effort to save up for star tools, EXP for enchants and different materials such as quartz and emeralds for building. Sure, the rich spend money also - but them losing money won't change their spending habits that much. But for the poor, it most definitely will change their spending habits - They'll go back to saving money instead to do whatever they were intending to buy, that they got scammed.

Finally, what do you think happens to the money people scam? It generally sits around in trade signs. And there's no spending when money sits around in trade signs - the money is just saved, not spent.

It's quite silly to consider scamming an alternative to lotto for taking money out of the economy and oppose suggestions that help stop scamming.
