I am suggesting that the ECC staff, who do such a great job of moderating/developing etc., deserve a bit of EcoDollars at a fixed rate as a salary. They deserve more than an occasional "thanks" and the ever so uncommom donation, they deserve some money for their troubles.

I prefer not having a salary; makes it too formal, first of all, and takes away from the idea that we want to help people. Plus people will then apply for mod for the sole purpose of they want to get paid, without any intention or interest in trying to go above and beyond to help people.

I thank you for the thought. :) But sky is right, not getting paid is a good thing. The occasional thanks is just fine for us. We are here to help you guys, not make some $$$.

Alright, I understand the helping part. Sky, you do have a point about the applying for moderator just to get paid, I just wanted to help you guys out some more for all that you do.

I know your intentions mean well with this suggestion, but as it was mentioned previously it is a volunteer position that is used to help make the server better. Getting paid to be a moderator defeats the purpose of volunteering. There is a different outlook on someone who gets paid to do something against someone who volunteers to do something.
If someone gets paid, then it makes it seem like they have to do it whether they like it or not. Someone who volunteers to do something without expecting anything in return would make them out to be a more respectable character. Such an example would be hourly shift restaurant crew members compared to volunteer firefighters.
New potential candidates might also just be interested in the money and not the purpose of the position as well. Also, I could not help but notice that you are missing a $10-$50 Donation Medal. That is rather interesting to gander upon. XD

I think its a nice thought for them to get paid :) they do give up a lot of their time to moderate the chat and that deservers a lot but I guess if they don't want it then why go against their will?
