I've recently been farming reeds, 1. They grow faster and 2. Because of the rate of how fast you can make money. For example, one stash of reeds can be farmed faster then pumpkins.

 

well as a a no tools sucar cane however if you have the tools and the farm go pumpkins EffV is the same on pumpkins as reeds because i have the farm prems and the tools i farm pumpkins

 

Reed are the slowest growing crop BY FAR, whilst pumpkins are one of the fastest, although those statistics may push towards reeds being 4x better than pumpkins, I suggest you take a look at the thread where Rockdassie showed exactly how much you can make with reeds.

 

I actually don't care which one I farm. I normally farm pumpkins until my whole farm is empty and then I would move on to sugarcane. Sugarcane requires no tool which is why I farm it after my axes break farming pumpkins.

 

Im over farming. I have farmed all crops and to be honest it requires way too much effort with all the nerfs that happened over the past several months. I can make the same amount of money farming xp at my quad mob traps. I also have more time to chat and do other things as the mobs spawn. I have also made a ton of money buying lower level tools, armor, books, etc and combining them to make a 50% profit. I wont give away any secrets, but if your smart you will figure it out. In the end farming is a boring and mind numbing experience and there are other ways to make the same amount of money if your creative enough to figure it out.

 

Yeah, if you a resident/mayor with no money, reed farming is the way to go.

The fact that it's gonna take an hour to set up a pumpkin farm then 30 minutes of a reed farm of the same size will pay off in the long run.

I have an eff V silk unbreaking III Diamond axe. Yes, it's gonna cost more to actually get that axe/farm, BUT, you will make more money in the long run. I got this axe for free, someone had a handout. So for me, giant profit comes a bit sooner then for others.

 

No question pumpkin.

 

I used to farm pumpkins, never really got it into. I have always seen Pumpkins as the inferior crop, and the recent nerfs have just proven my point even more. At this point, i'm fairly sure that if I was forced to farm Reeds or Pumpkins, I would choose reeds. Even though I have fly/speed, and an Eff. 5 axe, Pumpkins still make little money for me. It actually takes longer for me to farm a inventory of pumpkins then it does Melons. (This may just be because the way my farm is set up. But hey, who knows.)
Maybe one day Pumpkins will actually be worth something again. But until then, Reeds are the best choice. Maybe one day...

 

1. No one breaks pumpkins with their hands, when using an eff 5 Umbr.3 axe you break at the same speed. Pumpkins are just easier to farm and make more.
2. Pumpkins grow WAY faster
I have tried farming both and made way more farming, However I normally switch to sugarcane after my farm runs out.

 

They are the EXACT same BUT sugar cane you can collect one row well breaking the other so you dont lose any like you do with pumpkins so sugar cane is better if you have a big farm.
