SOPA and PIPA down, ACTA is next, and possibly followed by TPP. When will they stop? 2/5/2012 3:25am Sios: They will stop when all of humanity stop relying on the simplicity of the Internet, and instead- use manual labor to actually go to the library for once, and learn the old fashion way. The Internet, is partially responsible for the lack of work ethics that we see in so many children today. Granted, it has produced finer children as well, with the massive amount of information on the Internet, but -- we should go about it without the many of these informational texts being falsified and/or biased, corrupting, or rather, showing some children only side of the argument. People need to go outside, be proactive, and stop sitting at home all day, browsing and surfing the web for their entertainment. College Student: You don't need the internet to present falsified information to any demographic. Large corporations already attempt that through the education system as recently demonstrated by BP and Paramount. The internet is by far the best source to obtain unbiased information once you filter through. If you claim newspapers, and magazines don't include hints of propaganda, well I can only say you are 100% wrong. It has been in existence since before the internet; even literature from the 1800s contain it. It is illogical in every way to hinder technological advances and innovations. This is the information age and the internet has become a part of our culture. Maybe your claim is true that there is an ever deterioration of work ethics as we move further down generations, but what does that have to do with the internet? What about when the internet wasn't around and everyone talked on phones? or during the era when everyone just watched TV all day long. Correlation =/= Causation. Sios: The internet will continue to be used for obvious reasons. The same reason why people use elevators in office buildings, use electrical lighting instead of candles, type up papers instead of handwriting them, take an airplane across the world instead by wind powered boats, etc. The internet and libraries have their limitations, and integrating the two will produce the best results for everyone. Technology improves what was yesterday for the people of today and tomorrow. How would this hinder technological advances? Rather, if one finds themself above others intellectually, especially when it comes to the world-wide-web, they would have access to all this information and more. This is the common theory of "survival of fittest" - where those who are well suited into finding this information, will be able to locate it and prosper from it, instead of the mass. Understandably, this will create a seperation of the "Internet-savvy" and those who aren't. However, if we allow this seperation to occur, not only would we eliminate those who struggle or rather, are incapable of using their brain to its highest potential - Those who are fully capable of doing so, will continue to procreate - creating a new generation of the intellectually gifted. Eventually all those who are unable to keep up with this "intellectual adaptation" - will die out and the newer generation of intellectuals will continue life as they should - with now, the mentality to learn, the curiousity to figure things for themselves, and so on. And hopefully, when the word reaches a newer "state of mind" - We shall again, create a new law that should filter out these people and the cycle continues, until the intellectual potential of a human is fulfilled. Also - To say that this is the "Information Age" - Wouldn't entirely be correct. Information has been communicated across globally, nationally, state-wide, city-wide, etc - even when the Internet didn't exist. Refer back to the first book that was printed out - You could consider that as the Information Age, where now we could share Information on a more global scale. Dating further back, even ancient civilizations had an "Information Age", as they were able to convey bits of information through calligraphy. So to say this era is just the "Information Age", isn't saying much - as we've had the "Information Age" - over the entire span of the human civilizations. To wrap it all up, allowing these laws to pass, ones that seem to "hinder the human innovation" - is turning a blind eye to what humans are truly capable of doing intellectually, which would be bypassing the "system" at any cost to preserve one's information. These "laws" are acting as a filtration system against those who are not "Internet-savvy" - allowing those who are intellectually capable, to continue on.
You forgot to address the issue with SOPA and PIPA possibly severing several forms of Internet based business.
