So, i was walking around with scot, when he fell down a crevasse and died. I didn't know where he died, and I walked right into it, with my 3 stacks of obsidian and 4 diamond picks. We went on a manhunt for our items, but never found them. Both of us got fly, and soon forgot about it.
So, today scot found the area we died in. and I flew down to the bottom of the crevasse. They were still there! Me and scot quickly collected them, and were suprised that they didn't despawn. It was right near a town, so it was pure luck that nobody was close to them or collected them.
