Alright, apparently I am still confused about this thread. What exactly makes this "false/stolen valor" so much different from everything else?

 

It's military, so your basically stealing rank/authority and telling people your something you aren't

 

Rank, okay. That is (in a way) always the case when pretending to have a specific profession. But authority? The people affected by the rank's authority (i.e., other military personnel) are - at least in my opinion - unlikely to believe such claims without any proof.

 

Lol, you'll be surprised what people can be capable of nowadays. It's very simple for someone to fake this kind of thing, unless they come in contact with another person of the military, a police officer or anyone who understands the stuff. But, it usually does not go this far, although I've seen people actually do this and get arrested for it due to it being a crime obviously.

Exactly. The only ones who would be affected by such authority are the ones who are able to recognize it. Where is the problem, though?

 

The problem is people trying to be something they are not. I mean yes, you may want to pretend you're in the army or military, everyone has probably done it as a kid or during games, but that doesn't give someone the permission to walk around ordering others to do things of something that they aren't even apart of.

 

Sorry, but I don't really see the harm in trying it if those who could be affected don't fall for it.

 

It's just ridiculous and causing trouble for yourself and the people around you. Don't impersonate something that you can easily sign up for and earn yourself.
