My first impression is: Lag inducing.

Any plugin that interacts with a webpage causes lag. For example, LiveAuction and the Live Map. Both cause lag in varying amount, with the former causing so much lag and taking up such a vast amount of resources that it was removed indefinitely.

The stocks plugin, I believe, would seem to be much like the WebAuction, only even worse (in terms of lag). The plugin would be in constant contact with finance.yahoo.com to update the stocks, a task that would be very demanding on our server machine, even more so with the huge influx of users we've gained. The two of these combined, I fear, may be too much for our server to handle.

Also, wherever the stock house would be located would be affected by it greatly, just as the Auction House and the surrounding area was due to the mass amount of work the LiveAuction plugin was performing.

In the end, I say a no to the stocks simply to save our resources.

it all depends on the way they build it.
I looked through the code and they made it have a constant link to the server and it would LAG LIKE HELL! (its an easy fix though, just make it check at a regular interval(but that can be seriously abused))

and even then something this big is very unlikely to be added unless a seriously valid argument would be given.

 

The way I'm guessing andrewkm would build the stock house would be similar to the AuctionHouse, with many rooms and signs for the plugin, essentially the same set up in my mind and same lag.

True, we could make it have a regular interval, but yea it could be abused. I think what you're getting at is if a stock goes down, but it hasnt updated yet, somebody could dump all of their stocks just so they wouldn't lose money right?

It's all automatic through commands here are some of the commands I used....

/stocks help [Stock Help (Commands)]
/Stocks buy <Name> <Amount>
/Stock sell <Name> <Amount>
/Stock top5 (List top 5 stocks)
Ect.

 

I didn't look thoroughly through the plugin, I just assumed it operated similarly to the WebAuction, with command-signs.

 

this one does not open a constant link to the website so yes this one is not laggy.

 

Not to mention it has zero links to the website, as the stocks in this one are completely fictional, not aligning with real stocks such as the first plugin.
