I too have been wondering how much you can make with a star rod. I asked here:

With a star rod you can make 10k from the fish caught + 5k from the EXP gained. Star rods are around 800k at the moment.

Eh... I've been testing it many times for an hour straight. I have never made more than 10k/hour including exp and I think the numbers everyone is getting is from someone with 1000 fishing level so they get more exp.

Well i have 400 fishing and i get about 11k/hour including exp

 

Fishing level has no effect on how many fish you catch. I ran some numbers (theoretical I know) but with EXP I got around 9.2k/hour as the amount you would make if you were to instantly cast your rod after catching a fish, never miss one etc.

 

What kind of fish did you estimate you would catch though?

 

I used the odds of catching each fish as provided by the wiki and server prices for the fish, let me redo it here.

So, the Minecraft Wiki says: that a normal fishing rod catches a fish at a random time that is greater than or equal to 5, but less than or equal to 45 seconds. The "Lure" enchantment decreases this wait time by 5 seconds for each level, since the Star Rod is Lure 8, the wait time is 5-5 seconds, so 5 seconds. This means the theoretical most amount of fish we can catch is 720.

Since we have junk/treasures disabled here on ECC, we only use the raw fish chances. These are (worth to server):

Fish - 60% ($10)
Salmon - 25% ($15)
Clownfish - 2% ($25)
Pufferfish - 13% ($20)

So the average amount of money we get from catching a fish is: 0.6(10)+0.25(15)+0.02(25)+0.13(20)= $12.85

Finally, catching a fish yields 1-3 experience, meaning that we get an average of 2 exp per fish caught. A good selling price for exp right now (in a spawn shop) is $1.5/orb as well.

Putting this all together we get: 720((12.85+(2*1.5))= $11412

Now I guess that this is higher than the 9.k I thought it was but this number isn't realistic. Unless you're cheating in some manner it is unlikely /impossible that you will be able to catch a fish and throw it back out in literally no time as it takes time to cast the rod and you're not a superhuman with a reaction time of 0 seconds. Also, $1.3/orb is a more reasonable figure for selling EXP if you don't have a top tier spawn shop. Assuming you only take 0.25 seconds to catch the fish and recast it and you sell your EXP at $1.3/orb you will be making something more along the lines of: (3600/5.25)*((12.85+(2*1.3)) = $10594.29/hour.

TL;DR: 15k? How about no way.

 

I wasn't saying you catch more fish as your level goes up. I was told that the EXP from the fish goes up as your level goes up. Not sure of the legitimacy of this but that is my belief.

 

Yes, you're definitely correct on that, for some reason I never noticed that.. I was getting xp in increments of 20,25 and 30 in my small test.

 

i have done some tests myself and got about 14k, 8k in fish and 6k in exp that then you can sell at 1.1 per orb or more

about the fishing mcmmo i am at 1000 and it helps with the exp because you have a higher chance of lucky fishing that can get you those 20, 25 and 30 exp per fish

also you can get 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 exp per fish no mather the fish the higher the mcmmo the better chance of that exp being high

i will do a 1h test and post some screans as proof for you to see later if it helps

 

that's with 1k fishing.

combine profit off: 16401,25$


with a total of 492 fish caught i even did delucaco percentage of fish caught form:

288 fish 58,54%

130 salmon 26.42%

7 clown 1,42

67 puff 13.62%

of course all of this has many factors and variables but it can make make good money and even more than a melon sword, you just need a litle work to get it.
