I'm trying to decide if I want to purchase a cheap donor feature and I'm hoping to get one that will both help me and bring in some extra money as well. How much should I expect to make selling tp's? Would water or lava placements earn more? I don't expect to earn a tremendous amount, just some side money.

as of right now,if you wanted to make money selling a giftcard/tp donation feature would get you from 50k-100k. these days tp's dont sell for much at most $100.water placements sell for about $5-10 per block placed.

The best feature that will get you money for the least cash is extcreations. Only $30. Though I bet an sg kit could do you well if you play sg.

If you want to make extra money, I suggest you invest in a nice pick and get /back or even multihome.
It was the first thing I got. That way you can get deep into a mine and then /home to unload your materials into chests and the /back and be exactly where you were. I would have multiple mining "homes" set up as well in case i was having trouble with one, i could go to another.
But definitely get /back
