ECC is based on the most possible realistic Economy that you can get out of a Minecraft server... In real life, if you got scammed, you wouldn't just get that money back so easily. Besides, if refunds were given, it would be chaos for us staff to deal with. We have enough scammers, advertisers and other staff-related duties to deal with on a daily basis. We staff try our best to deal and handle with scam complaints according to what Andrew has instructed us to do. I myself have never been scammed in my life on ECC, entirely because I have bought all my donations myself with my own IRL money. But as someone who sells donations, I make sure to provide full proof of the legitimacy of my services through past customers and to ensure that the user trusts me before making any transactions. Background checks are a MUST and your own responsibility when it comes to trusting a seller. Don't buy them on a whim, make sure you do your homework first. Always ONLY buy from a trusted user.
Honestly, this is a 1 in 100 situation, 99% of the scams are because someone was too lazy to do background checks or because someone blindly trusted someone. Sometimes situations like these happen, and there's nothing we can do because the user is permanently banned and very very unlikely to come back. We can't take money out of his account, because obviously, the money from the long term scam is long gone in lottery/other players Eventually, this money simply disappears. Simply put, you got in an extremely unlucky situation, far from a normal scamming situation. Aside from this, being a bit more wary of who you buy from and doing background checks can prevent 99% of the scams, and in the case of larger scams, like your 350k, you need to be EXTRA cautious, don't just do background checks, make absolutely sure this person is someone you trust. The biggest donation purchase I've made was 500k in total, I actually got it from Tommy_t because I didn't trust anyone else with a large sum of money. Another thing you can do to prevent a big loss, buy $10-30 giftcards from several people you trust, in these situations, if one person falls out, you will have minimized the damage.
I, too, know what is like to be scammed out of my hard earned ECD, only to have the donation not appear. Or, from a now banned user who shall not be named, where all of the donations they did for me were reversed. That hurt most of all... and yet, I didn't demand a refund. I know that, by banning, the user has been cut from the community and can do no further harm, plus, should they wish to return, they will be held accountable for repayment. So, despite sympathizing greatly with this cause... no. I vote no. The risk is always yours to take, and, like all such decisions, the consequences of it are, too.
I still to this day do not understand why people pay ECC money for a donation feature. It makes < 0 sense. Why not use REAL money, so you don't have to whine and complain about scams?
It's because some younger people (and older) don't have the option to spend irl money on a video game. My parents aren't the biggest fans of video games and don't let me spend irl money on this server. Honestly, i doubt I'd even be on this server if it wasn't for this option because features are such a big part of the server. I also had a question for the staff members. Let's say that Player A is buying a feature from Player B. Player A doesn't completely trust Player B and vice-versa. Could Player A and B use a staff member as a middle-man? After Player A has the feature applied to their account, Player B is paid the money from the mod. I don't know if you guys would even have time to deal with that but even opening a staff request format would help a lot against scams. So would that be possible?
I am a big believer in the neat concept of... Spoiler Deal with it. (Im not directing this at you or anyone) It's so simple. If you can't spend IRL money on a video game feature, that really sucks. But don't come whining to everyone that you got scammed by A, B, and C and you want your virtual money back. Minecraft shouldn't control your life, so if you care that much that you lost some virtual money, then just stop playing
Lol, I'm dealing with it by buying from other players. And if you look at my previous post I voted for no. I never complained. (I know you said you weren't directing this at anyone. Just saying)
It's unreasonable to tell someone to "deal with it" when there's a perfectly good solution out there, if it weren't for that solution I would have more than $800 less in features.
ECC is a HARDCORE economy server. It is trying to be as real-life as possible. Do people just refund you whenever you get scammed in REAL life? No. Getting scammed is a learning experience - it teaches you who to trust.
Yes because everyone works hard for their money (except people who win lotto) and when they lose it to some jerk, they should get it back other than it just sitting in the banned player's account!
It is a bit more complex than that. If you work so hard for your money you should be more careful with it. There are also other factors to consider such inflation and the time it would take staff to deal with issues such as this one.
Just saying but.. We should add sueing, case-by-case basis it would determine if a scam refund is nesscary or not, or whether or not it would even work... Anyhow; Personally, I just think whatever amount A scammed from B should be subtracted from their balance, whether or not the money was from that scam. If it results in a negative balance more than 50k, whatever money they actually had would go to B. If it doesn't result in more than a 50k negative balance, B doesn't get anything. So what I mean is, A scammed 50k from B, but he only has 30k in his balance, 50k would be subtracted, leaving A with -20k. In this case, B doesn't get anything, but if it was more then 50k, B only gets as much as A had, no more no less, (Even if it only means $0.1) and A is left with a possible debt and won't be able to buy anything until his balance is 0. In the case of anything 50k and higher minus balance, they would probably have to get it removed in chunks, they make 10k, their balance is removed lets say once a week (Just a suggestion it might be less often) and that keeps happening until is paid. Only even amounts would be removed to make adding it up easier. But there's still the issue of Andrew (and any other staff) not having the time to do all this. It's all fine and dandy, but you can't do it unless Andrew had time, and he doesn't. Especially if you had 20+ cases going on at once.
i agree i think even if we do get scammed we should get like a percentage of the money back. like maybe a half or less but lose it all to a scam.. i don't think it would be fair for a user, i mean they worked so hard for the money i don't know how long but it would have taken a while. i too was once scammed $300k and i got noting back which kind of makes me sad but thats like a long long time ago, i just moved on. but i still would have used all that money for something. i think there should be a change and i hope you all agree with me
Andrewkm CLEARELY STATED selling and huying donations for ecd IS NOT RECCOMENDED i think for some items that are extreme like mswords maybe some should be redunded other thsn that NO so.i say.no to this thread Sent from my ADR6300 using Tapatalk 2
if this is the reason scammed people dont get their money back, i think that is total and utter BS This is basically saying AKM tacitly endorses scamming as a way of possibly getting money out of the economy.
