This is an Awesome idea! Its simple and easy to build, and would be super safe to conduct trades with. You could put one of these at the 4 coners of spawn and people wouldn't have to be scared of have their items stolen!

You could put in a switch on the inside and disable teleportation from within the rooms and a small 1x1 hole in the wall to pass items through. it exists on another server and worked well, maybe it could be in the claims room.

 

There are...pros and cons and just in-the-open comments I have to make about this.
Pros:

Safe trades
MORE trades
Guarantees your items because the person on the pressureplate wont let the scammer out unless they pay/give items
A lot more I cant think of

Cons:

Takes up space (why not just walk somewhere safe?).
A lot of people waiting to get in at once, forming a huge line trailing around spawn. Bigger lines will decrease the amount of people using it, and it will eventually become unused.

Out in the open comments:

Good idea, I have to say. But why not just walk out a build portal, or go out spawn, or even go into a town portal to get your trade done? Ask for a tp if you need to. If the item is stolen (which happens a lot) the person that tried trading is to be...the one to blame. I say that we should either 1) have drops disabled at spawn, or 2) do the suggested newarrior suggested, but just with the cons in mind.

Also, does anyone remember the spawn trade house? If you do, you should understand what I mean by getting unused.

I've had a thought like this before, but never did anything with it. I totally love the idea. I also tested the prototype and offered a public chest in the room idea. I think this is a great way to help builders trade better.

Having a small area with a few of these rooms should be more than enough. Even with 200+ people on the auctions are only a few at a time, I don't see having huge lines waiting for this. We would only need 5-10 max and never have a problem. Also with it being so small it won't take much space to do.

As I suggested in the past, you could also add a /auction that will teleport the players right into the trade building.
