Re: Rule against Shout Spamming or make /ignore work for sho
Ok... i just have one thing to say... this must have been hilarious xD
But seriously, could we cut the seriousness? If you knew each player on ECC personally, or were on a 20 cap server where everyone knew everyone, you would be laughing WITH the guy, not trying to tear him down. I say leave as is. If you put up too many rules, S you have probably already experienced, spend more time fixing people who break rules than time they would have spent being broken. Some rules are obviously needed such as money exploits. However, some less rules make the game fun. Its a GAME people. If you want rules, go out into the real world -
Re: Rule against Shout Spamming or make /ignore work for sho
AndreW thanks for taking this seriously. It's not a thing about just laughing along with people because they decide to be extremely childish and annoy the entire server as a whole.. You have to look at the big picture rabid.. There are lots of players who will leave and never come back after seeing something like that not taken care of, and it becomes a problem when players are allowed to do things that cause the server population to possibly drop, or to cause conflicts and problems.. Yeah it's nice to have fun and have a good time, but at the same time if we did anything we wanted, and it made everyone leave... there would be no ECC so keep that in mind next time you want to back the abnoxious spamming of the entire server. -
Re: Rule against Shout Spamming or make /ignore work for sho
Well, personally if they cant handle something small like this, then they have either the option of taking a break... or pressing f1. Hud gone. Problem solved. Another thing is that people who take things to seriously make it un fun for the rest of us, causing us to leave or in a case such as this get banned. Either way, same outcome, one is fun and one is not. Your choice. -
Re: Rule against Shout Spamming or make /ignore work for sho
@rabid: From what I've gathered, more users were upset and left the game than users who were laughing. These serious people haven't ruined anything for those laughing; those laughing seem to actually not care or care very little. This spam was not "something small;" it made several users leave. Users will not hit F1 to avoid things like this when they are trying to have friendly conversations with other users and socialize. How would you like it if your mom and dad barged into your room and started talking about nonsense to each other while you had friends over, and you couldn't go anywhere else...? Turning off the HUD also makes it very difficult to play the game or do commands.
We also don't have too many rules; too many rules and we'd have no players.... We have a lot of players, and we are one of the top Minecraft servers. I've heard much, much worse about other servers and top servers when it comes to having too many rules and Staff being too strict or not fixing any problems. -

Re: Rule against Shout Spamming or make /ignore work for sho
Come on rabid, now you sound "too serious" :D. Don't assume that just because some of us do not find having fun at the expense of the fun of others as "fun" or "funny," that we don't like to have fun on the server. Perhaps you think that we are sticklers because the activity bothered us in the first place. It wouldn't have bothered me as much had i been, say, pumpkin farming, but I was attempting to communicate with multiple people at the time to accomplish tasks, so that hour+ spam shouting time wasn't very fun for me (and many others). The point is, it "did" bother lots of people, had he been considerate, he would have stopped. He himself admitted that he was thriving off of the complaints, which is textbook troll behavior. If you think being considerate is lame, maybe it is cuz you are still young :D.
I'm very interested in fun on this server. I'm building a massive 140X110 block entertainment district in my city that will have all sorts of games and events I've been cooking up. I'm also organizing a pvp faction for mineworld, that I hope you still are interested in joining :). I want you guys to have fun, and that is why I'm building the entertainment district. I do not, however, have interest in encouraging or participating in "fun" that is at the expense of others. PVP is some kind of exception in a way eh. -
Re: Rule against Shout Spamming or make /ignore work for sho
What is fun about watching some immature kids saying the same thing over and over. There was no thought in it, it was just plain annoying. Now if it was something with some thought in it or maybe some kind of game, then maybe i would agree. These guys were purposely making other users exprerience unenjoyable. People couldnt communicate well, auctions were difficult, and no one was attempting to stop it. Regardless of what the rule did state these two intentionally looked for a way to exploit the rules to annoy others and they knew they were doing it. when they were asked to please stop they laughed and kept on. Thank god the rule is changed.
Hey does this cost me 2k? If so it was well worth it! -

Re: Rule against Shout Spamming or make /ignore work for sho
The whole argument about spamming in /shout would be pointless if people could just have their /ignore apply to the shout channel as well. not being able to see the shouts of a player you have ignored seems to be common sense anyway. -

"Simulating the real world" has to be done an order to have peace on the server. If people are saying they had no fun because of this and that they would have more if the rule was added, I see no logic in what you said. Adding a rule is making it more enjoyable, not less.
This may be a game, but it's a game that has to have rules - there wouldn't be as many rules if having less made everyone happier. The only reason to add rules is to make the server a little more peaceful and enjoyable. If adding rules is going against that, what is the point in rules? I don't see logic in that at all - the rules are only here to help. the point I'm trying to make here is that we are not attempting to simulate the real world, we are trying to make the game more enjoyable for everyone. As it happens, doing that is impossible without lots of rules, as people would be allowed to do whatever they so wished without getting in trouble, leading to an unplayable environment.
If you can give me a good reason why adding this particular rule would make the game less enjoyable for you, then please tell me, as I have no clue what you are trying to get at.
Oh, and just a random fact: Adding this as a rule wouldn't actually be adding a rule at all. Literally all that would need to be done is removing like 4 words and adding 4 in it's place. lol. It would actually make things less complicated rule wise as spamming wouldn't be allowed universally instead of everywhere but shout. -

It is a game, and this isn't making my game experience fun. -

Usually the kind of people who spam with shouts are the people who bank on the lottery -

Re: Rule against Shout Spamming or make /ignore work for sho
Ok so if they are spaming it just to bug people then they ARE breaking the rules:
Trolling, Harassment, and Common Sense
This rule is simple. Don't troll (look up "Troll (Internet)") users away from the server. Harassment (gameplay and chat) is also very unwelcome and can get you punishment depending on the severity. Harassment includes, but is not limited to, excessive attempts at killing players outside of a PVP area (seen live), following them around with constant harassment when you were told politely to leave, name-calling and provoking, and anything that falls under the rules for chat channels. Use your common sense while playing. No one likes users who make the gaming environment unpleasant to others. Be a good sport and a friendly community member. Those who violate this to a heavy extent will be warned several times - if it does not stop, a kick/ban may be put in place.Click to expand... -
Re: Rule against Shout Spamming or make /ignore work for sho
I believe I quote Spock on this but the needs of the many outweigh the needs of he few. Err something like that but the point is that shout spam is hated by many and liked by few. Tadah, common sense has been added to this topic on all simplicity without the need to quote rules or ethics. Just a fiction character...
