They where saying Spam, what is Spam? Spam what is Spam? over and over again for a solid 30 mins or more because I got so tired of that crap I left. Is this what I donated for, crap like this? Also, can I purchase grieifng priveledges just like they ourchase spamming privlidges?

1. Shouts ARE an exception to the no spam rule.
,2. Solution: rewire /shout so the $500 is split between all players online, effectively paying for there screen space. In order to keep it somewhat of a sink, maybe its a pay all $1, plus remaining to $500 is payed to server

Yes but we are talking about over an hour of the same shout. There needs to be a stop to that. It is ridiculous. Just would like a review in the rules to prevent this kind of situation. Thanks

Hmm interesting. He clearly had the "intent" to spam the entire server. Even if i am misinterpreting this rule, this is obviously a suggestion thread to change the rules a bit. I feel like we at least need a /ignore option.

I only have one screenshot of tonight's occurence, I should have taken more. When a second user joined the spam party, it monopolized chat a good bit. What if 5 users joined in? It would be ridic. I honestly do not understand this interpretation that spam isn't spam if you pay for it. Someone who has money has the power to monopolize chat. I'm all for shouts when used responsibly. But when a user is constantly spamming the same thing over and over with the "intent" to spam, I don't agree with the current view on shouts. This is not good for the server. I'd like someone to explain to me how excessive shouting with the intent to spam is good for the server. New users may witness shout spamming and never come back. And many regular players found the activity annoying, making it hard to enjoy the game and communicate with others. How would it hurt things if the rules said that shouts with the blatant intent to spam are against the rules? Like I said, users that find this activity annoying (some did not) should at least be given an /ignore option.

This is what the server looked like for over an hour, there were times that were more spammy than this for sure. I bet it is still going on now.

i fully agree even if they paying 500$ repating the same crap over and over again is spamming i logedd off cause basicly i could not read auctions or pm ppl as by time they talk the spam filled up the chat log

I agree with BurnsBrightly. The spam shouting was very disruptive tonight and caused quite a lot of confusion beings that I was in the middle of several conversations. This cannot possibly be beneficial to the server and I make a motion to have the rules changed to prevent a reoccurrence of tonight.

Perhaps if the cost of shouts were higher if they have been made at a certain rate for some period of time. The cost could exponentially rise the higher the number of shouts in the past 5 minutes or something.

This scaled cost approach could also be combined with payments being split among those on the server when the cost is above a certain threshold since it would start to add up to "real" money for the recipients then.


Regarding the specific shouting this evening, it was indeed annoying and disruptive, even if perfectly within the rules at the time.

I fullheartedly agree with this.. It's an absolute abuse of the feature to shout and spam the way they did, Not only was it inappropriate the way they were spamming, but like Burns said, it's annoying 80% of your players, people will leave and have a bad taste after seeing that kind of spam.. It was impossible for me to do anything in my town with other players because all the chat would just be removed.... They were blatently spamming for the longest time, and it's quite surprising that it's allowed simply because they paid 500$ To use the shout feature... There's a difference between spamming a few lines for something actually productive like advertising, but to spam with the intent to just waste money and piss off the entire server should not be tolerated..

i said that to the mods @welikeike22 but they didnt listen they just said that there was no rule against it i just hate how some mods are basically chose by popularity not what they have done.

It's clear that you understood that much of the server disliked what you were doing, yet you say "I hope you're all as excited as I am." You obviously are not showing consideration for other's experience on the server. You thrived off of the complaints. Very few "enjoyed" what you were doing. Some laughed yes, but I doubt many are "excited." You monopolized the server chat with your pointless spam messages using your 750k, preventing players, trying to accomplish group tasks, from being able to communicate. Selfish behavior....

Also, yes perhaps some mods were laughing "with you." But, I recall a number of mods asking you to plz stop, as well.

Just remember that he will eventually run out of money and/or get bored and stop. It was obviulously to get attention and it seems to have worked.

I agree vdub but I think this situation has produced an opportunity to set a precedent so that this kind of thing can be avoided in the future.

Something I've been meaning to get off my chest, and now I have the chance to do so:

Why in the world is spamming lottery tickets which is twice the price and not customizable not allowed but spamming shout is? I just don't get it.

In lottery, you can only send one kind of message. "[LOTTERY] [Username] just bought [number] ticket(s)!"
In shout, you can send just about anything. In fact, you can even use strikes, bold, etc.
In lottery, it costs $1000 to spam a single line of text that is easy to to tell isn't any other chat you were talking in.
In shout, it costs $500 and you can make it look like Global, Local, etc... As well as you can fill up to a total of three lines of someone's chat bar at the same time.
You cannot leave lottery "channel" or ignore it.
You cannot leave shout "channel" or ignore it.

If lottery ticket spamming is not allowed because it cannot be ignored/left, that something needs to change it shout too. This has puzzled me from the moment lottery ticket spamming became an issue. The only reason I see only lottery would be effected for this is the fact that in lottery you can win money back, however I do not see this as an issue since it's about 10 times less effective anyway, and you will lose eventually.


A little more on topic though. I am not fond of shout spamming whatsoever. I know there is no rule against it, but it's just plain annoying, especially if done by the right user who knows how to make it blend in with just about any channel or uses common colors for chat stuff. I would really like to see something change here.

"laughing along with me"? Is that just a fancy way to say they couldn't do anything about it? I'm not sure anyone is happy when they can't see chat. :|
Staff couldn't do anything about it - doesn't mean they were fond of it. "Laughing along with you" implies that they found it funny/enjoyed it.


In any case, if at all possible to find a solution to make people have the ability to "spam" to an extent, I would be satisfied. I just don't want someone doing it for a long period of time disrupting server gameplay, even if they have to pay for it - that's like saying "Here, guys, we have a new money dump! It's called spend $500,000 to make nobody want to/have the ability to play on the server for a while!" which would never happen. Heck, if $100,000 is too little to restart the server twice disrupting gameplay for about 5 minutes I see no reason why spamming shout disrupting gameplay for about an hour and a half should cost any less than 1 mil.


I'm not raging at the rules at all, I'm simply stating my opinion about something I've not had the ability to mention until now.
