The fact is that these ads I happen to see everywhere, why? Because I play lots of games, I often have searches regarding games. It is also worth considering that ads are also displayed based on information of your area, so what your neighbours search. Some individuals may not see these due to them not being allowed in certain countries.
They're ads for games. So they don't fall under the category of pornographics ads. Besides, the ads are all based on what google's algorithm's say of what you do. You can make it so the ads rarely every happen by turning off ad tracking, this will give you more random/generic ads. ( see http://www.google.com/ads/preferences/html/opt-out.html )
Hmm, I was unaware of this setting...(Tech Kuke ftw) In this case I think our best course of action is for Andrew to post, preferably in general discussion or somewhere, showing how to turn this off, so users don't get offended.
I think we've figured it out just fine, I bet there are 100 other things more deserving of Andrew's attention
You'd consider stamping out pornography less important then configuring some new server setting? I'm afraid Nico, I strongly disagree, this should be top priority.
How exactly are these ads "pornographic"? You must have a really prudish definition of pornography if you consider this pornographic.
I wouldn't call then pornographic, more like explicit or sexually suggestive. But that's completely besides the point, they're inappropriate and they're not directed at any age.
Well I'm glad your still allowed to play ECC knears. Some people might not be able to play because of these Ads.
There is no reason Andrew should have to do anything about the ads on the site. If people are not allowed to play because of ads that pop up on their computers, they could simply request that their parents monitor them or as many of have said, install an ad-blocker/turn of ad tracking. If a parent is not understanding enough to comply with either of those, then they have more things to be concerned about then playing ECC.
I'm afraid that if this were more true, I doubt people would be complaining about it. All I say is, have Andrew alert people there is a way to turn them off, for those that want to know.
I'm interested in finding someone who wouldn't be able to play ECC just because of some minor sexually suggestive advertizements that exist only on the forums... I wonder if such a hypothetical person exists or if we are all blowing this out of proportions? Also, these advertizements are artworks and are therefore exempt from being defined as pornographic, when defined through consensus, since there exists a higher value in their essence. However, I do concur that they may be inappropriate.
Well, the entire point of the ad, and the accompanying game, is to... excite? Therefore, they still fit in this category.
I barely agree, but I added a tricky bit of information refering to consensus. It takes more than a few people to designate something as pornographic. The majority of people would have to concur, and it seems reasonable to assume that most people would categorize the advertizements as just "suggestive."
I've been thinking about this one and I cannot fathem certain things: 1. If you have access to your compuer, install adblocker = problem solved. 2. I'm sure you have been exposed to much worse content than this and whilst I understand that the images may be deemed inappropriate to some users, once again Adblocker. 3. If parents are concerned with the images that their children are seeing, install a filter/adblocker. The ads provide a vital way of increasing the survivabilty of the server, without them the income for andrew to keep the server running is going to decrease. The aspect of creating this a family-friendly server is one of our main goals, and in order to do that, the server must be online, thus requiring as much money as possible. If you or your parents are so against these ads/adblocker, the next choice (which would benefit the server the most) would to be upgrade to a gold account. There are many solutions to the aspect of removing the ads from your sight, so I don't see why andrew needs to go out of his way to remove then. You can use the devices available on the internet to remove them if you wish. I apologise if this is interpreted as rude and the reason that rudeness/bluntness could be in my reply is the fact that I don' quite understand the longevity of this thread as the solutions are so clear. So please don't take this the wrong way, as it is just my opinion.
I agree that if we don't like em we should use an adblocker, all I ask is that Andrew post a tutorial on how to get rid of them, to keep people from complaining.
You say that you want Andy to post a tutorial on how to get rid of them because "people are complaining" and yet after reading all these responses, you seem to be the only one blaintantly ignoring the responses of otherS while hiding under the mask of "I don't care, I'm just doing it for the rest of group, which is mostly nonexistent... Anyway onto my points As /many/ of the responses have said in here, if you don't want to see these ads, get adblocker or another alternativeS, the responcibility of "watching out for the kids" in this situation falls on the parents and the kids themselves, not Andrew. Yet another point would be that, basically, this is the Internet, many a people would've been subjected to much, much worse then... "suggestive upper genitals" and honestly, even without the Internet, kids are already exposed to a media frenzy of oversexualisation by their supposed role models, just look at Miley cyrus's wrecking ball, I would consider that much more volatile to the development of a child then seeing a somewhat suggestive banner for a game Also yet again, what many people have suggested, just be mature about the situation, company's know that sex sells, and they'll use that as much as possible. All considered, I see no way for this suggestion to work.
I'm afraid Harry, you've caught me at my down point. Yes, this is one for the few select areas where my bias stands out. Everywhere else, I remain as non-bias as possible, but I'm afraid this is one topic, where I have a bias against it. If it is not Andrew's responsibility to make things family friendly and to protect from things like this, then why does he not allow the discussion of politics? Or swear words? Or religion discussion? Shouldn't the parents protect from that? Yes, I know, parents will be upset about those things and not this? Look at kconahan, he wasn't allowed to play a Virtual Lottery. Do you really agree that virtual lotteries are more dangerous then these advertisements? But your next point is flawed. If children are so subjected to much much worse things on the internet, why in all the world would Andrew attempt to stop discussion of religion, politics, sexual things, swearing, or anything else on ECC? Everyone get's pumped full of it elsewhere, why does he even try to stop it? What's the difference in this situation compared to those? And just "sucking up and taking it" is no excuse at all. If I can just "suck up and take it" then we should allow the discussion of politics and religion, and swearing, just because I can suck up and take it.
