+1 this needs to be addressed !!! I'm sick of losing all my farming gear pvp gear and my melon sword !!!!
Can someone please explain this hip new term of butchering to me? I've never really experienced this so I don't know
It's where a mod will come into an area and do the /butcher command which kills all entities in the area; like mobs, minecarts, item frames, and tools or block on the ground. This would be used to see if a butcher was about to happen the player would know not to through an item on the ground or kill their mobs they have been afking before it happens.
The /butcher command is something that is available to Game Admins+, although they can use the command, it is automated to go off every 15 minutes. To be more precise, butchering removes all entities which include; Mobs, dropped items, paintings, item frames and minecarts (i'm sure that there is more though) Because of the second thing in that list, sometimes when people are doing trades with others (tool sales, erepairs, dying etc.) they lose their tools. The point of this command is to at least prevent a few of the loses due to this. Personally, I am in total favour of putting this in to place. I don't think it would be of any difficulty to set-up and would be a great asset to the server if the community is aware of it.
Well, seeing as this thread has been going for a few days now, I might as well post my thoughts on it here. While I do see the use of adding a command like this to the server, no one has though of the negative implications that it could be used for. The auto butcher is an automated way the server users to try and keep lag to a minimum, and giving users access to the exact timings of this would allow people to abuse it and cause lag to the server. I know most of you would not use this knowledge in a negative way, but as the old saying goes "A few bad apples can spoil the bunch". While it is a shame that you guys have lost tools to the happening of a butcher while you were trading or doing a repair, using something like a chest would prevent it from getting butchered, and I would highly recommend if you are afraid that a butchering would cause lose of it. From reading through this thread, I see that my thinking is against the grain here, but I do not find the risk in allowing people to abuse it is worth the risk of it saving a few items that could possibly be saved with this addition. tl;dr People could abuse it, and there are all ready ways to prevent item lost, -1
Good point. What about a notice that is somewhere withing 5 minutes of the next butcher? That way there is no way to know.
I like that someone has posted something against the idea, but i have thought of the negative things, and i do not see any problems. How would this be abused? Some dropping tons and tons of items right after the butcher, then picking em up before it happens again? These are lag causing people, and they will be punished for trying to lag the server. But using a chest seems a lot simpler.
Dropping the items is one way, but the method I would see most likely happening would be getting tons of mobs in a mob trap, leaving the chunk for the auto-butcher to go off, then enter the chunk, repeat until the server lags. While the staff team could check for it, it is a time consuming process that our current system avoids for the most part. While we could ban them for lagging the server, that requires the staff team to try and locate the source of lag while trying to calm the server who, let's not lie, generally keep sayng "lag" in chat whenever major lag like this happens, and trying to locate anything during lag is not easy to do. It may not happened, but seeing as it can only take a few people to even attempt to do it, I do not see this as worth the risk to implement into the server, though I could be alone in my thinking of it.
generaljoecool I get where you are going with this, but we really do need this command! I have lost so many valuables in butcherings and I am sure hundreds of others have too!
Hmm, didn't think of that...and your right, chat does get a little hectic. Time for a new smod command "/disable ch g" It would shut down global during major spamming crisis's
While I do know it can cause someone to lose items, valuable or not, I myself do not find the risk of adding to be worth it. For valuable items like a melon sword, they can be safely passed through a chest to players for any kind of deal, whether for e-repairs or to loan out. I know it is not as simple as just dropping the item on the ground, but it comes with the added security that butchers will not effect it. Now, I can tell from this thread that I may be the only one that thinks this way, but I will stand firm on the fact this can be a risk to the server, and my opinion is to not add it.
I don't really see this as necessary I used to farm blazes a bit and never really got caught in butchers, I do E-Repairs for people all the time and Ive never had this problem. I feel one or two people have lost a tool here and there and want to complain and try and cause more problems than its worth.
