    Hi

    I want to have a railway/railroad/subway (hope that's covered all types of English!) in my town and I'm looking for help with permissions. I've been looking at other people's models but nothing seems that good so far.

    My ideal would be a system that deposited a minecart from a dispenser and collected it at the other end. However it looks like models that do that use cactus and pistons to remove people from the carts.

    I thought one way would be to ask people to put their used carts in a chest. However it looks like if you are not in the town you don't have the permissions to remove the cart from the rails and it looks like butcher gets loose carts.

    So - is the only way to sell carts or allow people to place their own? Even then can outsiders place them? I've tried to ride the subway at awesometopia and it won't let me place a cart on the rails.

    How do people handle this?

    This is what I did in last February's build contest (theme: Lost in Space): a loop.
    1. place an inclined powered rail at the starting point
    2. place a tripwire at head height just above that powered rail, and connect its output to the powered rail
      • when the user enters the minecart, their head will automatically trigger the start and the journey will begin
    3. have the rail go wherever you want
    4. place an activator rail at the end of the journey
    5. let the rail track go on
      • when the minecart arrives there, the player will be automatically ejected and the minecart will go on
    6. connect the track back to the starting point, in a loop
    7. one single minecart should suffice
      • if you're afraid many people might need to use the rail at the same time, build a minecart buffer before point (6) and use more than 1 minecart
    8. Enjoy!

    I like Expi's version, but I have a slightly easier (less materials) in Lancaster (/warp Lancaster) that lets anyone use the existing carts. Only problem is when people jump out of the cart in the middle of the ride instead of the station. Then there are lonely carts :(

    My experience of the Lancaster ones is using my own cart and crashing into dead ones in the system. I wasn't aware there were ways of getting a cart in Lancaster.

    I have perms in Lancaster so I don't know if a normal user could place a cart on the tracks.

    Everyone can use carts in protected regions, regardless of membership and interaction flag.
    Only members can place/destroy carts in protected regions.

    Everyone can use buttons/levers in protected regions, if the interaction flag is not set to deny (default).
    Only members can use buttons/levers in protected regions, if the interaction flag is set to deny (that's why I suggested using tripwire to trigger the starting powered rail: it works always).
