What are the common rules with regard to residents or builders using a plot, they paid for in a town, to make a farm as a source of income? How do most mayors feel about it? This would be a farm you build either above or below ground.
I'm asking as its something I was thinking of doing to make some money.

Hello @SpartanAmaroq
Its usually down to the Mayor of that town, some have very set rules when it comes to plots.
This could be due to lots of reasons but some mayors have a public farm for people to use, which means you can use your plot for a home, rather then a mini farm. :p
So its all down to the mayor really, and is a important question to ask before buying a plot in a town. :)-

Ok, thanks for the reply. I don't feel comfortable using the community farm to make money. Feels like profiting off of someone else's work. One of my towns started a new rule regarding farms after I've been there for some time. Definitely something I'll be asking about in the future. Hmm. Anyhoo, thanks again.
