I see how this could interfere with some things on ecc but I would love to be able to change my name tbh

 

As far as I remember, Andrew said that we will not support the name change. That means if you change your name, you are reverted back to builder/lose your donation features, etc. (unless that has changed as of recent)

 

Im not sure if you keep your ranks and donation features but I do know it would be impossible to bypass a ban. As your player name has a player id value hidden within it. When you connect to a server it connects with that hidden value. According to phoenix that value has been there since almost forever.

My question is, if the player id works for trying to bypass bans wouldn't it be able to keep your ranks and donations.

That would be a major let-down to a majority of this server. People enjoy ECC and love playing here, but I'm sure many would love to change their name... Myself included. If this personal ID works as vengfulbacon says, then why couldn't it be integrated? I understand thats a bit of work, but its the Dev team's job to at least keep up with Mojang's updates. We've seen this already with the enchanting overhaul. I feel if it doesn't work out to carry over name changes, many will be very displeased when choosing between their name, or their stuff.

 

It seems to me that the simplest way to avoid all this confusion for people is merely to think long and hard prior to creating an account in the first place. I for one agree with Andrew that this will only lead to disorganization and a frenzied mess so it should not be permitted. If you want to be seen with a new name, get nickname. Besides, I already have the most kicka-- name on here anyways so it wouldn't do me any good.

From what i've seen it shows that the update will be automatic to making the banlist and all that to uuid base. Im not sure if this can even be removed like the enchanting system was. If andrew was really gonna deny changing usernames then he probably just wont give their donations and ranks back.

 

I for one would like a name change as I made this account before I came up with the username I go by now. It is rather unfortunate though that Andrew will more than likely stick to his guns about not supporting these name changes.

We will enable name changing when we feel that enough users are using 1.8 or higher, so that servers have time to switch to the new player formats. We do not have any details on how name changes will be performed or any restrictions that will be required to actually perform a name change. We want it to be easy and freely available, but we also don’t want people changing their name every 5 minutes!

Nothing, really. The server will update itself, but it’s entirely possible that it may require your input if it finds an issue (nonexistant players, for example). If your server fails to start then check the log, otherwise it’s ready to play!

No, sorry. We had to change the protocol to support the new player formats.

This should indicate that it shouldn't matter and all SHOULD stay the same, donations, ranks, etc. As for forum names, i'm assuming you'd have to get that personally changed, whether or not Andrew wants to do that is his choice.
