I was looking at the Ban Appeals section and noticed this thread:
http://www.ecocitycraft.com/forum/threads/ban-appeal-ian0507.81064/
After seeing annyonions response I was a little confused. If a user (like ian) has been offline for 7-8 months or so, why cant hey be unbanned? Even like he said " I cant remember the reason" so why not unban him.
I'm not getting at this one appeal, I have seen a few like this before. So my questions is:
If a player doesn't show up on /seen why aren't they unbanned?

Because if it is as bad as x-ray or fast break then you cannot appeal. Since they have no proof to show what they were banned for they just act like it is fast break or some ban that makes you perma banned. I think its a little tough but its the only way for now.
EDIT:
If you get banned take screenshots of it so if you return a long time later you can use that as proof I think it is valid. It also needs a time stamp that is important -

Yeah but if it has been so long from the ban was issued what does it matter?
-
1) this is bs because people have been banned for xray fast breaking etc and still been able to appeal and come back. So I've always thought that reason being given why is total bs
2) tfb! if you wait 6 months to come back here after being banned then it obviously wasn't that big of a deal to you so you just go away now k thanx bai-

Ok i agree with the first point, but the second one isnt a good way to be with the community, if someone wants to come back on after that amount of time, thats up to them dork.-

I agree - to an extent.
Many players, including myself have seen other users getting banned for fast-breaking, X-ray and a lot of serious offences, but, getting Un-banned in a short period of time (Taking in count the offence).
However, SuperMods can never know what the user did - If he is really supposed to be unbanned or if he has done a serious offence and has been banned for it multiple times. Not having any intel or information makes it so that the staff team doesn't want to risk the servers safety.
iEx: User X-rays, appeals after a long time - Gets unbanned and keeps getting banned for minor offences when finally he decides to do something even worst than X-raying (Duping, idk) and gets banned again. Users like those are not welcomed in the community anymore, and thus, thats why without any background on what this specific user has done, it is better to play it safe, than getting him back online to X-ray and/or do more serious things that can harm the server.
Personally, it is very rare when a user with a lot of previous bans gets Un-banned after doing a really big offence. But, yes, I have seen situations like this.
By the way, this is my opinion. -
I respectfully disagree with these statements. Should it be needed , I can dig back and find many examples of users given many chances (even after supposed permaban offenses) and coming back to pull the same stuff again -

Lol jk in all seriousness, the players who are banned should stay banned, they obviously didn't care enough to appeal. -

I think everyone deserves a second chance. If a player has broken a very serious rule then chances are they'll do it again and this time it can be recorded for future records. It's kind of unfair to not let people on such an amazing server when they may have only broken a small rule. And people can change, just give them a chance to prove it.
That's just my opinion though.-

I don't understand why we can't save ban reasons forever. It is just text, storage space shouldn't be an issue for so little data. Can we set it up so that when clean up occurs, we save ban reasons in an archive instead of wiping them completely?

Every cleanup thousands of files are deleted, and out of those files, hundreds are banned.
Every file slows down shutdown, backup and startup times.
Also, if someone hasn't appealed in months then they didn't have much intention to stay on the server to begin with.
