Item: Melon Block and Pumpkin
Data Value: #103 and #86
Current Price: $1.50 and $1.25
Suggested Price: $1.75 and $1.00
Brief Description: Many people are glad about pumpkins being raised, but also, many are angry about melons being lowered. Melons should be worth a decent amount more than pumpkins because they require a special tool to farm them, Silk Touch. For a Efficiency IV, Unbreaking III, Silk Touch I (the best currently available to most people) Pickaxe or Axe, it will cost you $20,000+, meaning you have to spend a decent amount of money to make money. Now, it just isn't worth it at all. With melons being only $0.25 more than pumpkins, you need to farm AT LEAST 1,250 stacks, equal to almost 50 inventories full, to make up for the cost of a Silk Touch tool (20k). See Below.
$0.25 - Difference between Melon and Pumpkin Prices
Times
64 - Items Per stack
= $16 more per stack
$20,000 - Cost of Silk Touch Tool
Divided by
$16 - More per stack
=1,250 Stacks
Obviously, there isn't a big difference between farming melons and pumpkins anymore unless you already have a Silk Touch tool. Pumpkins can be farmed easily, they don't require anything special - All you really need is a bunch of stone axes and you set. But, like I said earlier, melons require Silk Touch, and it takes OVER 1,000 stacks to justify the $20k of a Silk Touch tool. That is why I think:
Melons - $1.75
Pumpkins - $1.00
Basically, this would take $0.25 from pumpkins, and add it to melons. No "extra money" is being added, just the values are being pushed around. This would balance the economy better, and make much more sense than the current prices.
Before the price change, with an Efficiency IV, Unbreaking III, Silk Touch I Diamond Pickaxe, you could make 12.5k-15k per hour. Now with the prices being $1.50, you are normally going to make LESS THAN 8k PER HOUR! However, I calculated that if prices were $1.75, the average person could make 10k-12.5k per hour, which is much more reasonable than 8k per hour.

Kuke knows what I think about the situation... Maybe he will agree with me at some point.

With Gold here. But I do have one question, how do rich people ruin the economy? That seems to be a main reason for low prices. The only way I see rich people actually hurting the economy is by crashing the diamond market…….oh wait.

The melon nerf was a bit uncalled for <_< I think Melons should be AT LEAST 1.75 and pumpkins should be a dollar.... or better yet Melons 2$ :D and pumpkins 1

I agree with this post! The original $2.00 melon to $0.75 pumpkin ratio equaled a $2.75 total balance. Having a new $1.75 melon to $1.00 pumpkin ratio would keep the $2.75 total balance, keeping the economy balanced as well as making both melon and pumpkin parties satisfied. :D

I am opposed to the suggestion
I think that people are becoming too swayed into 1 categories when it comes to farming
I think we should have a variety of farming not just pumpkins
The changes that andrew had made where to balance it out a bit and get pumpkin farming back from dead when no one was doing it -

Pumpkins: 15k per hour with Eff 4
Melons: Less than 8k per hour with Eff 4 Silk
Last I heard, Andrewkm said something about he thinks 15k an hour is a fair income, and with current prices, melons are making half of that or less, unless you have Eff 5 tools. I think everything should be balanced, and even though the price per piece is close, if you look at the hourly income, it's obviously not even close to balanced :/
Basically, if the prices were the following, everything would be much more balanced price-wise:
Pumpkins: $1.00 - quick harvest, no special tools needed
Melon Block: $1.75 - harvest slow and require Silk
Wheat: $1.50 - can be insta-harvest, but needs replanted
Sugar Cane: $0.30 - no replanting or tools needed!
Cocoa Beans: $0.25 - are a pain to harvest, but grow fairly fast
If my calculations are correct, which they should be because this data is from repeated trials, with these prices, the average player would be making 10k-15k per hour, which is a fair amount.
So @scottyang1323 I do see your point, however, how Andrewkm did this basically did revive pumpkin farming, but this also lead to a major decline in melon farming. With the prices I suggested, pumpkin farming will still be very profitable, and melon farming will be closely equal to it. :D
Keep those comments a coming! -
ok i did some math during one of my school classes and this is what I got.
if melons remain the way they are, it will take ~33 chests full of melons to get mayor or ~566667 melons
if melons were $2 then it would be ~25 chest full of melons or ~42500 melons.
at andrewlstephan's adjusted price it would be ~29 chests full of melons or ~48572 melons.
the adjusted rate to me seems fair. its 8095 melons less than the current rate and 6072 more than the previous price of $2.
i will edit this in a little while to include the rate of melons chopped in 5 mins and multiplied by 12 to get the average rate.
its not that long so dont Tl;dr -
Melons make about 12k/hour
Rockdassie said that and I agree for 1.75$ per block
Why ?
Because melons :
1) take time to harvest
2) needs silk touch
3) makes low money per hour compared to pumpkins -
