Would it be possible to make 1 trade tower hub for the entire server instead of having them spread out like now? 4 shops max in each floor.
And not sure if this is doable, but once you enter that area you can open an "map" of the tower to see what shops sell/buy's what. and not have it an feature to get that list, rather make it an feature to be able to place your shop on it, connected through your trade signs?
Tthe shop owner should be able to place an advert not customers if this is to be made an feature in my opinion.

Also @JamieSinn possibly instead of having the plugin search for the trade sign itself it could be easier if the shop owner put in an inventory of items and the plugin would simply be like a search engine searching for similar matches. As long as the shop owner kept the list uodated and was active i think this would be a lot simpler to make. And the shop owner would have to be active, otherwise he/she would be evicted from the shop, if what @Greylith suggested in the first post toke into place. The management sort of thing.

I certainly agree that we need a more centralized marketplace, but I also know there are logistical issues around that. One of the reasons the market was moved was because signs take a a huge amount of, what bandwidth? server space? something like that, because they are always active. (or so I believe) I like the idea of a tower, but am thinking that it may not be workable. (again, I don't know, and leave the tech stuff to the techno-wizards)
On further thought about a searchable database of what is available in the market, I'm not so sure again. We all need to have visitors to our businesses, and a database would enable the searcher to find the item, and possibly the lowest price, and go directly there, and bypass other shops that desperately need business too.
I like the idea of being able to advertise, but I think perhaps, part of one's rent for their shop could be diverted for advertising for that shop, rather than a feature, that must be purchased by the merchant. (my feeling is that merchants pay a lot for their spaces, that at present are not really producing as they should due to economic downturn.)
I wish more shop owners would take part in this discussion. After all, a healthy market is good for all of us!

@zeldamerchant yes the economy is on an downturn atm, most of that is due to the supply vs demand on resources, exp etc. I do not know if the server might be able to make blocks more usable, so that there will be more in need for selling/buying. Without beeing an hassle for the normal player.
Pvp can counter this to some extent, but how doable this can be done on minecraft, i do not know other then to compare with other online game i play that have player based economy and 1 server only for the entire world. since that game cant be compared to game type and other aspect since ecocitycraft is only an server, not the game server of minecraft. As you said, leave that up to the techno-wizards :)
if you can get an centerlized ingame block search on what is for sale, connect through trade sign, then you actually would not need an centerlized trade hub. But again you might make the player based economy cash as well for this.
To make market more blooming the server might want to try to get players to use more block's, like remove repping on any items except star items. meaning anything except tools/items bought with nether stars will break at some point, and you need to get new one. make pvp more profitble. for example, make an pvp world that have mobs with certain vauable items at certain % drop rate. As also many have said, make mining world pvp. do not agree with that in general. but maybe 2 mining world 1 non pvp, the non pvp have lesser valuable resources in it. and the pvp world have bit more? -

Just calculated the max size of the database, assuming it has 500 columns and 25,000 rows, one per user, the database size can get up to 13GB.

Would this be a donation feature or feature itself that everyone has interest in? -
Now I am wondering how big the LWC/McMMO databases must be... :bookworm: -
I would gladly donate for a shop search function, but it should include any shop that wants to utilize it.
Also what about a flea market area, could utilize an unused shop area? -
Assign a new duty to one (or more) of the Staff members: "Purchasing Coordinator." This Coordinator would be tasked with browsing the market and buying up the lowest-priced goods. The goods bought would be destroyed, as this activity is meant to simulate demand (someone pays money then consumes those resources). The amount of goods bought could be adjusted based on whatever other economic calculations Mgmt. runs.
Conversely, supply could be constrained by reducing the frequency of mining world resets (bad side effects to that), or forcing players to specialize in farming/mining/fighting (bad side effects to that, but farmers would need to buy materials, miners would need to buy food, fighters would need to buy both).
I like boosting demand rather than constraining supply. -

Boosting demand is always a conumdrum. I'm not sure that artificially trying to boost it is the key. I still hold that resources are much to plentiful and that restricting supply, will in and of itself boost demand. This isn't necessarily artificial. In any economy, supplies will fluctuate.
This is a weighty problem. Still mulling on it.

How about this http://dev.bukkit.org/bukkit-plugins/physicalshop/ ? I think is is exactly what you are looking for but it's all database and no physical shops. @JamieSinn

I would also like to have a market redesign. There are shops that have barely any items in stock and the owners still have over a month until it expires. Redoing the market would help a lot
-
If a market redesign comes into play, I an for sure in agreement, as long as us current shop owners are given ample time to move. -
