Why can we choose to vote on both? Can that be..changed? I do not get lag - never did, even on old computers. :/ I know a couple people with really bad computers who also do not get lag from weather and do not have Optifine. Some people have different "bad" computers, though.
The Lag can be caused by differnt things ... Internet Speed Ram Speed Ram Amount Internet Bandwidth Resolution Etc. Rain makes more entities with moving particles its not a fact of if it causes lag or not. It Does. Its a fact of if its enough to effect your playing experience. This threads silly.
My laptop is unable to play minecraft on more then tiny distance (with and without optifine) because of all the lag I would get. My average FPS on tiny distance is 17, without optifine its 12. While raining my FPS is 16 on average, and 10 without optifine. It is safe to say that the cause of lag is not weather its a bad video card. People who have bad video cards (like me) NEED optifine to play the game. those who refuse to do that are the ones who have trouble with FPS while weather is going on.
When the thread says "Does rain cause you lag?" it means "Does your game run too slow when weather is on? Is it a nuisance?" That's pretty much what it means. Of course there will be a slight difference in lag, however, whether it's really a problem or not depends.
optifine can disable weather, and there are plenty of mods that can disable certain sounds or change it. (I suggest using audiomod and then deleting the rainsound files or changing them to another sound.)
its the same thing. spoutcraft has a modified version of optifine implemented, and its not cheating. spoutcraft functions can be easily disabled by andrew.
you could just obviate the internet options (speed and internet bandwith) or lag, but the other things on his list are true when it comes to why does it slow down your minecraft
