Hello, I read here that now passive mobs spawn again in main world (good!), but they "will not have the same protections as horses do so if you want to keep them you need to have them somewhere safe".
Also, I previously read in the forum that in mining world passive mobs are periodically auto-killed by the server, but couldn't find more info.
I searched the whole forum but couldn't find answer to what I'm looking for, so here are my questions:
My main issue is that I would like to start a small steak farm, but I don't want to start it and then discover that my mobs disappeared, so that's why I'm looking for this info.
- what's this "horse protection" and how does it work?
- what does it mean "have them somewhere safe"? Safe from what? (see next question)
- how does this auto-kill work? I think it's essential to know how it works to answer the previous question!
- does Physicistsmom's post just mean that auto-kill has been disabled in main world, or did something else change (if so, what)?
But it also would be good in general to just know how all this works, and I think it would be great if this was finally written somewhere in the forum, so that anyone could find this info just searching, as I unsuccessfully tried to.
Thanks :)

1. Horses cannot take damage... but there is a bug right now so they can take damage for a short amount of time
2. Somewhere safe means only accessible by you or trusted people so they won't be killed
3. There is no auto kill in main worlds so they won't be killed unless you kill them
4. Yes, auto-kill is disabled in main worlds as stated in number 3 -

Ok, thank you :)
Just one more question: how does auto kill work in mining world? Reading in the forum it seems that they just all disappear after a set amount of time, is it right? If so, then how long is this amount of time? Ty-

However, animals in the main worlds can naturally despawn because of the vanilla mechanics. Use a name tag for that purpose. -

Auto-kill, or "butcher" simply despawns all mobs and destroys dropped items in the mining world so as to mitigate server-side lag. The intervals at which this happens are random, between 20-30 minutes at a time I believe.
As to Phys' announcement, I assume that breeding will still be prohibited and disabled to make large-scale factory farming impossible? -

When you say "disabled", you mean that giving flour to cows won't cause them to generate calves, and like for the other passive mobs?-
