-1 I feel for you dude but in the future you need to remember to make a contract stating that the user is giving you official ownership therefore giving you the right to use a town transfer / claim on the town.
It would be different if a lot of people were applying for these, but they have not been used much, users decide, "I'm nkt spending 250k, I'll just sell the town"
It doesn't matter about its popularity. It matters that it's taking money out of the economy. People don't use it because people are using the town claim system quite often. There's over $500,000 out of the economy. What I'm trying to say is that more money is being taken out of the economy because of the change that andrew made. It's not going to happen, there's minimal ups, and too many downs.
Most of the arguments here seem to be around a "Pay a player, they rank up and I get the town" scenario, and we really don't want to encourage that. It ends badly. The player who got the rank most likely does not know/does not have experience with ECC/the economy and is tossed into a position where they need to make a lot of money to get the next town/rank. In turn they expect a quick and easy way to rank up like they just had and are more likely to either just give up and leave the server, or turn to scamming to raise the funds and hurt others.
Why would a user scam because they ranked up? Every user knows they are getting payed for the town, it's in all contracts involving the matter. Hell, I did the same thing, I have my town up so I could afford to apy fir mayor, I seem to be fine, I didn't turn to scamming, worked fine, I got my rank and he got the town. But... Oh now I go inactive, he wants a portal, now that town is useless.
I made this suggestion after hearing users complain about this rule, saying their town is useless as it has no portal. It doesn't benefit me at all. It benefits my town members.
If users are given something too easily they will expect to keep getting given things. Therefore they will eventually either leave the server out of frustration from not getting what they want or turn to scamming.
That's very opinionated. I wouldn't go calling people that if I were you. And, it wouldn't shock me to see that happen, given they were given a free rank for no good reason. People also complain about buffer and kits, yet nothing are done to them... This suggestion is extremely opinionated because your only argument is that you can't get a portal. Bring up a valid reason with fact and then I can talk.
I am not saying that I would I am saying that is evident that many users that do this eventually turn to scamming. I never sold my towns for ranks.
The fact is YOU are not the majority in the situation. Many, many players have quit or scammed because they didn't know how to make money and it was simply easier. As for the town being useless - that's the risk you take when buying from another player. Don't want the risk? Buy an official town or an official transfer.
If you haven't seen s valid point, reread my main post, still don't see any? Then get off my thread please. Your twisting my words around. Yes my case and your case have benefits and drawbacks, but I didn't think someone would act like this over it being suggested
I know I'm not... Many users feel this way, as many agreed before knears took up the rest of the page saying how he didn't like the suggestion
More users have agreed than disagreed so far, but yea I guess I'm the only 1 who likes it, 100 users online, 99 don't like this suggestion, ok.
For possibly one of the first times, I agree with @knears2000! My opinion on this is: This is a rule that even if we wanted to change, it would be difficult to change because there are 3 years worth of players who are currently relying on the fundamental nature of 'Original/Official ownership'. The whole town concept on ECC is based around this principle and we can't change it now 3 years in. Knears' point about incentives for ranking up vs your suggestion: I ranked up to President solely for the town. I wanted a town that I had unequivocal ownership to, could apply for features for, couldn't have my lwc's removed etc. This made me rank up to President which took out 180k from the economy. I just wanted a plain flat town, nothing fancy. If the perks of Official Ownership came with any purchased town, I could probably have bought a town from another player for 30-50k and none of this would have been removed from the economy. Sure if you compare the difference between amount spent on town transfers vis-a-vis the potential spent on town features if we relaxed the rule, of course the latter would be much higher, but the point that knears was making is that this is thinking about it too narrowly. You also need to consider people like me who ranked up. Now consider people who ranked up like me + people who bought additional towns + people who used town transfers + people who ranked up to use a town claim. All of those people potentially wouldn't have done so if this rule was relaxed. Very very quickly, the scales of expenditure turn. There are also things to think about from the point of view of the server hardware/specs. Portals are very demanding, and this suggestion could potentially result in a significant strain on server resources if many additional portals are applied for over a period of time.
