    Enchanting Changes
    By Skylexia, Redstone Journalist
With Minecraft 1.8 on the horizon, the administration of EcoCityCraft is already taking a careful look at how the expected changes will impact the economy. The first major change we’ve seen to affect gameplay and the economy for the long term is the enchanting change that was implemented.

Mojang is set to release an overhaul to the enchanting system in 1.8. This change would consist of obtaining 30 levels, like we have now. However when you enchant an item, it only takes 3 of the levels of experience, and a reagent. The reagent varies, but has been most often noted as being lapis pieces or gold ingots. This change could have many implications for the status of the exp and enchanted item sector of the market.

Andrew has already overhauled the exp market; he removed exp drops from both fishing and ore mining, causing a massive inflation and shift in market supply to an otherwise over-abundant and dying market. While some would say that this would have been a good first step towards preventing an entire crash with the 1.8 enchanting system change, there was further evaluation and the decision that the exp market would not be able to survive the possible crash.

In order to combat this possible crash, Andrew has decided that we will not be dealing with Mojang’s version of enchanting that is supposed to be released in 1.8. Enchanting tables have been disabled altogether. In their place, a brand new enchant shop at spawn will be implemented, which will allow people to enchant their items with [Enchant] signs, at a cost. Andrew has cited a couple positive and negative impacts of this choice.

The first positive is that people can choose the exact enchants they want on their tools. This actually could be a balancing point for the tool economy, dependent on the cost, as you would no longer have to spend numerous sets of exp trying to get the right tool, or right combination of tools to use an anvil to combine.

The second positive is that a Mojang update won’t have the ability to effect and possibly ruin our economy. This is a good point, as Mojang doesn’t make updates with the purpose of them being beneficial to multiplayer servers, and thus would have no idea of the effect any given update would have to us here on EcoCityCraft, or on any other server for that matter.

The third positive is that the administration has more control over the cost of enchantments, and thus the rates of each the exp and enchanted items market. This positive point has a bit of mixed review, as many of the citizens of ECC have been quick to condemn the control of administration over any given market on the server, and not having it more open for user-to-user trade. However exp and enchanted items are two markets that have had minimal direct control from administration over the years, and the new control over the markets could lead to possible gradual reimplementation of features that were removed due to their negative effect on those markets. Only time will tell how much of an effect this shift in control will have on that specific market and the economy as a whole.

The only negative listed in Andrew’s post is that hopes and dreams of cheap, easy enchants may now be crushed.

The user-base is sure to have a mix of varying opinions as to what other negatives to this system could be, such as less user-to-user market of enchanted tools; the difficulty of obtaining exp to enchant items, depending on cost; or the fact that another vanilla minecraft feature has been taken off the server or been very drastically changed.

Regardless of the pros and cons, short of Mojang deciding to change their mind on the 1.8 overhaul, it’s looking like the enchanting changes are here to stay. Keep a mindful eye in the next couple of weeks and especially into the 1.8 update about how this change will really affect our economy and our tools market.

Update: After the Mining/Nether resets, Andrew has decided to re-enable mining ore exp within the mining world, as well as activate PVP throughout the mining wold.

    Rising is Open for Business!
    By OnSceneReporter, Chief Editor
In the weeks after the Rising world debuted on EcoCityCraft, tons of mayors and presidents scoured the land for hidden treasures, both on the surface and under. Perhaps at first glance, some of the most active developments in Rising surround Rising Spawn.

This Sunday, March 2nd, 3pm eastern time, the Rising Spawn town of Ascension is kicking off it’s Grand Opening! Whether you’re a builder, mayor, tycoon, or just a die hard Team Rheas fan, all are welcome to attend.

SnDxCH4RG3R (hope that is spelled right) is organizing the festivities beginning in front of the magnificent Team Rheas building. SnD is planning to host item drop parties, music, base jumping, trivia games, and more (food and refreshments will be provided). It’s sure to be a grand Grand Opening, one this reporter would be thrilled to eat cake at. See you there!

Question about the enchantment system: If I enchant a pick with Eff. 3 and then Eff. 1, will I get Eff. 4?

Nope. You need to buy another eff3 to combine it into an eff4 with an anvil

Would you be able to enchant eff. onto a sword unlike what was possible with enchanting tables?
Or is the star shop the only way to get a sword with eff.?
