I have not been here overly long but hear me out.
I do not find that Resident is worth paying for, there is very little return to me for the 15k to get it, there are much more valuable things in the game to buy.
But I gave real life money for multihome, and still I get treated like I'm radioactive, "Hiring anyone but builders", etc.
One would think that giving actual dollars would be worth more than just gaining and spending in-game currency. CERTAINLY from Andrew's point of view.
Thanks.

Resident, personally is just a rank to show your commitment to the server. It says "Hey! I've worked to be here and deserve some respect". It's not a huge difference from builder, but it's the step before mayor. You need it, it's not about donating. Just my two cents

Resident is a must if you want to gain trust among other players
The biggest reason why people don't trust builders is scamming, now im not accusing every builder of scamming, a lot of them are genuine good people, but A extremely large amount of scamming does involve builders.Resident tag basically means that people can trust you more.the higher you go up the ranks the most trust and respect you earn
I know what you say about donating money but people look at your rank much much more than what you have donated.
Hope that helps :D -

I personally do think the builder rank is perfect as it is right now. Same goes with the Resident rank they just simply dont need any adjustments.
The builder rank as many people states, shows that you're not very trustworthy because you havent spend some silly 15k to get the next rank. which is one of the objectives in the game. "Getting the better rank" :D
That's my point of view on the Builder and Resident ranks. -
I think the original post does have a very valid point.
This is already setup though in the game.
When you donate you get a $ in front of your name (one $ for $10-$50). This shows you have donated.
A [$] Builder to me is much more trustworthy than a Builder.
To do much more probably will not happen. On the very long shot chance the most you might hope for is a color change of "[$] builder" to something unused to more clearly define the difference between a donating builder, and a non-donating builder.
Donating res/mayor/prez/tycoon may then compain and ask for the same to happen to their rank as well which opens a can of worms though too.

Like others have said, it helps people to trust you more, shows your commitment to the server.
Generally, a stand out green name is easier to see than a [$] in front of it, so you might not be as trusted as the average resident.
You also need to get resident to rank up even farther, to get mayor, etc.
Also, I'll say what I've said on another thread before:
If you set goals for yourself, you will find yourself having more to do. The more you have to do on a game, the more re-playability there is. The more re-playability there is, the more fun it is.
So basically, you might find yourself having more fun if there is things you strive to earn. If you strive to earn Tycoon, even with it's lack of perks, you will have a lot more fun, because you'll have more reason to play. No perks does not equal no fun. Why do you think achievements were added to games?
Even if you don't want resident for it's perks, you should try for it for it's journey to it. -
Yes. Im going to go ahead and point out that you say resident isnt worth it. What you get for resident is the ability to get rid of that radioactivity. (And co-mayor/trade signs) if you want the perk, earn it.

Residents actually have a lot of perks! I kind of see what you're saying, but as others have said Residents show that they're in for the long haul. Also I personally am a bit hesitant after many scams from them no of fence builders :/ I just don't trust anybody

On the other hand..... Seeing you have a dollar sign I would actually trust you more than a resident that has not donated
