While I hate to disagree with the majority vote, with a theme like Back to the Future everyone will likely have the exact same build. There is only so much that you can do with such a narrow theme. To have a more general theme, like medieval times, would then allow someone to do a sub-theme to add a little spice to the original idea. My build teams have a history of this... Holiday theme becomes a trip through Narnia... Lost in Space because the universe inside a Tardis... Easter Egg becomes Alice in Wonderland with the white rabbit... Amusement park becomes Resident Evil with the underground Umbrella labs. Sadly this might be the first build contest my team sits out for lack of creative room.
I was thinking about that with Back to the Future as well... although we do have the whole Back to the Future day coming up, how much can you really get from three hours of movies (BTTF + BTTF2)? I mean, you have the parking lot with the DeLorean, the 1955 amd 2015 cities (movies 1 and 2 respectively), and the clock tower... that's what comes off the top of my head. Not a lot else. What would be nice with medieval/sports, two other popular ones, is that they're quite open-ended, more so with medieval. You'd have plenty of options so you'll have nice, creative builds, while all builds are more likely to be unique in some way and still fit within the theme.
Flying Cars, Hoverboards Space Suits, Old School Diner Dinner Dance Jonny Be Good Steam Trains Cowboys and Indians Think outside the box, If anything its a bit broad, As you could like anything to the term back to the future (Anything related to history)
Thanks... judged by the plot summary, I either missed seeing this aspect of your build completely or didn't recognize it and forgot. ._. I guess this is my main problem for all build competitions, and it is likely that it happens again with a "Back To The Future" theme. ;-;
There is a video in my "Build Contests, A History" thread that does a full walkthrough, and shows my examples of theme/sub theme for all the contests entered to date.
What about a fantasy theme of some sort, whether it be Magic or Wizard Town or something among that nature. Might be a bit too broad. Just tacking that onto medieval because I feel like that's where it belongs XD. Medieval can go so many ways
Aw, and now Medieval is winning. I like castles, but they kinda get boring :/. However, I still think they deserve to be a build competition theme at some point.
Medieval isn't just castles though. It can be wizards, dragons, a town, a dungeon, an adventure. A lot of different twists to put on it. Sure you can just build a castle, but creativity in a build is awesome
Please Back to the future! We will have plenty of time for the other themes later, but october 2015 will come only once!
The medieval theme is awesome but it is also huge, maybe we should narrow it down and have a game of thrones or middle earth theme.
October 2015 - the time when Marty comes into the future from the past, this is the perfect time, do not forget, support the future!
