It would be a little spammy, but also easily something you could opt out of, like lotto messages and auctions.
Besides the probable nightmare that this would be to code and fully implement, items dropped have a ~90 sec window for you to pick them up which is beyond plenty of time to pick-up any items you may have thrown down, or items from mining, etc. -1
I actually think the warning message is a thing the plug-in does by default, but that is just disabled on the server.
