I am writing a ECC Starter Guide for the wiki and need some quotes and words of advice from accomplished and sucessful players on the server. Would prefer quotes from mayor and up (More well known players) but anyone who can give good advice or words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated. Will take as many quotes and stuff from players as long as the community thinks they are would be helpful to begginer players... :D

You are allowed to submit articles in the Wiki Suggestions Fourm...
and there is not a Begginers Guide yet... :) -
Re: Need Quotes and Words of Advice from Accomplished Player
"A rich man knows a day in the mines"
Some quote I read off a sign 8 months ago on a different server. -
Re: Need Quotes and Words of Advice from Accomplished Player
The rich get richer, the poor get poorer. We strive to thrive (haha rofl) and make a days wage. -
Re: Need Quotes and Words of Advice from Accomplished Player
Mining is the best way to get to resident. Go into a build portal and go at least 500 blocks out. Find a cave system and mine into the side of a deep part of it. Set your home there. Make a few chests and mine out enough room to grow some saplings. Lock your chests. Mine and sell everything you get to the server except some iron so you can make some more pickaxes. Sell redstone and profit and stockpile diamonds so you can sell them in an auction. Once you have at least 32 diamonds try to sell them and get at least 70 per diamond. -

Strive for a goal and stick to it. You want to be president in 2 weeks? Work like a dog. Never give in to fake offers. Keep your money and be smart about spending. -

Stop asking for jobs: they are wether underpayid or fake. Mine, mine, mine, mine. Then get a farm and farm, farm, farm. Dont be a looser and stop asking for money and loans. Only spend money on tools and dont build in the fricking wild and then bug the mods about being griefed -
Re: Need Quotes and Words of Advice from Accomplished Player
When you first start out in the server, one of the best things to do is head to a secluded area and begin mining for materials to quickly gain funds.
Lapis is worth $4 per dye, so that's good money. Some people also buy it for more than that occasionally.
Redstone dust is worth $2.50 per dust, which is also pretty good. Again, people sometimes buy it for more than that.
Gold is worth $10 per ingot
Iron is worth $7.50 per ingot, but it's best to save it for tools and such before you get...
Diamonds! Which can't be sold to the server, but usually sell to other players for about $60 to $70 each, but can go as high as $90 on occasion, but that's rare. it's usually best to save them for tools and armor.
Same with Coal, it's only worth $1 per lump, and it's very useful for smelting and torches, so it's best to save this as well.
Obsidian is worth $10 per block, so if you find a lava pit near water, this can be used to gain money.
All items (except diamonds) can be sold to the server using the command /sell hand
I find that, and many other players would likely agree, that Branch Mining is the best method for mining materials.
Both of the following links contain information on branch mining, and the best average location to begin mining is at Y coordinate 12.

After you've gained plenty of funds via mining, the next step in quickly gaining funds would be to purchase a plot in a town with a pumpkin farm and harvest as many as possible. Each pumpkin is worth $2, and you can usually harvest about 1 stack per minute. In 30 minutes, you could get a potential of $8000 in farming.
One last tip: make your first home in the wild inconspicuous, or hidden, as large, above ground bases are usually quickly griefed outside of towns. The best location for a base is either in a secluded body of water, or underground. Preferably, underwater and underground.
Also: use commands such as /cprivate to lock chests and furnaces to prevent other players from stealing items from them. -
Re: Need Quotes and Words of Advice from Accomplished Player
I might want to put this in the main part of the article if you are ok with that
But if you could condense it or make it on paragraph that would be awesome! -

Quality over Quantity. No matter how hard-pressed you are for money, pride yourself in making the best of the best. If you build it, they will come in droves.
Never settle for less than what you believe something is worth.
Kindness, generosity, and quality are the key to the hearts of the wealthy. The likely-hood of it is, one of your friends will become successful, and the friendlier you are to them, the further they will take you with them.
Don't rely on moderators for everything. You will make more of an impression by knowing things than by asking questions.
Good grammar remains the key to the hearts of the intelligent. -
Re: Need Quotes and Words of Advice from Accomplished Player
Read and use the forums. There are a lot of useful things in there.
Join projects others are starting to try and get some friends and people that will help you during your time at ECC and make it generally more enjoyable, this is SMP after all.
Don't hoard your money, it's meant to be spent.
Only bet in the lottery what you don't care about losing.
Don't buy lottery tickets as a builder. 15 tickets is equivalent to how much it costs to buy Resident. -
Re: Need Quotes and Words of Advice from Accomplished Player
First you should start off ECC by mining for a few days get diamond tools and raise some $ with iron, redstone, lapis, diamonds. then once you get a good amount of money find a good town to join preferably a town with a big public pumpkin farm. Then buy a plot there (if there is a public farm use it for a long time) then build a nice farm/house.
