It will automatically update old maps, there is no reason to make a new map. Cats are not that big a deal, I am sure people with ext creations will be able to make them. I expect some of the plugins to break and be down for awhile but that happens every patch almost.

The block height will be increased to 256 blocks. I am pretty sure that that will mean more diversity in terrain. If it doesn't change how far you can go underground, I am all for keeping this map, but if they make it so you can go 128 blocks up and 128 blocks down then i think we have to migrate to a new map. Just my opinion.

I can now confirm that sea-level is still at 64 so a map change isn't 100% necessary but it might still be wanted. I honestly can't wait for the amount of freedom this will allow. Also the whole game didn't get any more laggy from what I have tested and it seems to be less laggy compared to previous versions.

There was no need to confirm, it specifically said in the post the max build height had been increased from 128 to 256. Never said anything about moving the levels different block types spawn at. Just like it said in the original post by jeb and subsequent twitter posts that maps will automatically update to this and not need to be new. Reading comprehension is at all time low it seems.

Would have been nice if the mountains went up higher. Epic 256 high mountains, and plateaus! Dormant volcanoes with lakes inside them... Glaciers and thundering waterfalls etc etc.
