I keep mining ores and the drops glitch through walls or jump 3 billion miles away (where I am not), meaning I'm losing anywhere between 20-50% of them. Has been happening for at least 3 days and idfk how nobody else has noticed it considering I hardly play. Posted the video in discord general. No I am not uploading it here.

Seeing as other people have noticed, I might as well throw in an image. I think this perfectly represents what is going on. The crosshairs are over the block that was mined and well, the diamonds are trying to get away from me :(

I mined an emerald ore today and it also disappeared like I was mining it with the wrong tool. I was using a l3 magic pick ax. It happened once out of 3 mined ores

For me, it somehow clips into the wall/an adjacent block, then because the game is trying to process where this item goes since Minecraft mechanics do not allow items to be in blocks (specifically a mechanic for gravity blocks falling on items), shoots it in a direction that it thinks is the closest open-air/water block

I am experiencing this as well. Hard to say exactly what the cause is, but am certainly losing drops.

This is now fixed and will be live after our next maintenance.
As part of this fix we also lowered the item merge radius from 6 to 4. -
It has certainly improved, but I have noticed it still happening occasionally. My experience has been that it happens primarily with ores that get extra drops from magic items specifically when they are in a tight area surrounded by other blocks. It seems like the large stack created by the magic item has more inertia and then if it spawns inside of one of the surrounding blocks it’ll float upwards through blocks until it finds an opening (either cave or surface) above it. It’s gotten much better though.

The items are still flying everywhere when mined, but yeah, the sorrounding blocks are putting up more resistence. Instead of disappearing, the items end up in weird places a couple blocks away - but sure, less are being lost to the void.

I think the odd drop behavior is related to Magic Picks and the extra-drop perks we have for Iron, Gold, Copper, Diamonds and Emeralds.
I uploaded a video here;
I used a Magic Pick L3 vs a Eff5/Unbreaking3 Diamond pickaxe.
The redstone ore is normal ore behavior, both are consistent and we do not offer extra drop perks on Redstone for Magic Picks.
Compared to Diamond you can see the difference in the drop behavior. L3 Magic Picks have a guaranteed drop of 4 diamond per ore.
Also tested with Iron and Gold ores with the same result.-

We will take a look at our extra drop code and see how we can improve things as it looks like Mojang changed how items drop lately.
