There is a thread suggesting it, and I believe I saw khobbits in an old thread say he had recommended it before. However there has been no response from Andrew. Despite the regular map being pretty large, with such a large player base and a massive turnover of new players, its being mined out quickly. Pick a random spot in the wild and see how much you can mine before you hits signs of other peoples mining etc.
My suggestion is to expand on the idea. Why not separate mining portals based on either rank or donations? I also think a free for all pvp and grief enabled temp mining map would be fun. If you wanted to make it donation based then do a temp say 1000x1000 map for builders and all ranks. Also make a temporary mining map that is maybe 3k by 3k for people who are donators. Whats the incentive to be a donator beyond the feature you purchased? Getting in over the player cap? The player cap has been moved to 300 and I haven't seen the server hit it. Nor am I sure I would want fight the chat spam that many players would produce.
Alternatively you could break it up base on ranks, portal to a temp mining map for residents and builders, one for mayors, and one for presidents. Make them all 1k by 1k, and of course presidents would have access to all the lower rank portal maps etc.
Alot of possibilities there but the current format of wild build portals just means chunks of the map are over run by new players and become scarred hunks covered in locked doors and chests with a chewed up eyesore map area. On top of depleting mining resources for people who make a town anywhere near it. In theory part of the incentive to make a town is that you now own a potentially virgin area of mining to mine at your leisure without fear a swarm of people will mine it out from under your home.
*New temp map areas for mining would also solve people saying they want to see or experience new biomes that get added like jungle, without having to expand the normal map.
?
Would you like temporary mining portals?

I know that a mining world has been at least discussed but I do not know at what stage or decision we are at. I think at the very lest we may need to do some chunk refreshes around all the build portals to make it livable in those areas.

Keeping the dream alive, kudos to Andrew for refreshing the land at some of the wild build portals. Its not a temp mining map like some people asked for but its alot better then a kick in the pants and its definately progress.

+1 to this idea I have found that lots of new people to ecocitycraft quit because they say they can't find anywhere to build because the land is so destroyed (They might be a bit lazy for not going out far enough but still its like 300 blocks out)

Did you mine non-stop?
At what layer did you mine?
WTH did you do to mine so little?
It is impossible to mine only 4 ironores in 3 hours.
I get atleast 5 stacks in 3 hours. -

everything in there beside PVP (unless tombstone and things like /back are disabled in there) -
Asking for a small map to be updated every 2 days is crazy. Be a lot of hassle for Andrew. However, yes to creepers and chaos on the mining map. I think nether gets refreshed about once a month, could lump in the mining map(s) with that I am hoping.

You'd completely saturate the world with ores effectively making everything worthless and almost free, so do you really want this or do you want to keep the system we have now. Anyway if you think of it like economics if the supply of the ores the demand for them will also go up but the price will drop, so you'll need a lot more to make them as profitable as before. Mostly this will completely mess up the economic system we have in place at the moment.

Mayfield is simply stating that with more ores in the economy it would become less expensive to purchase some as they would be easier to get. And I agree with this
But I can see the value of a mining map, especially to new players.
