Okay im new to this server and i think the server is amazing! there are many ways to make money and further improove life in the server. unfortunatly changes need to be made especially to the towny or town plugin, the portal system was a great idea but it can be confusing and yes i understand that there is a map or whatever or the website, but i dont think most casual players want to leave or pause the game, go open their browser and look for the map on the website, and from personal expirence most peoples PC'S are pretty laggy so it slows down their computer and thus their game. The shop system is okay but could be better, in my opinion it should all be in one building, and different levels organize the areas. For instance floor one contains colored blocks (wool, clay, jeweled blocks) floor 2 is building materials (cobble stone, wood, etc,.) so on and so on. One more thing with the town system the current mayors are very, to put it in light terms arragoant, most are very powerful and tend to ignore their fellow players, i had asked several times in global chat if there was a mayor out there who would consider allowing me into their town, not even a response. in order to fix this the position of mayor needs real life money to get to the rank mayor, that way there are not as many who tend to ignore lesser players, same goes to other ranks, this will undoubtly take away the current ranks of players but if possible let any current mayors that actually RUN towns keep their rank, any who are mayors who use their rank for their own selfish needs need to be de-ranked. Not to new player rank but just by one. the warps like PvP Sg and others need to be made smaller and eaiser to see, in some cases bigger is not better, it would be better to make a row of portals listing where they lead to. And the chat needs to change drastically, there is a plugin used by certian server that makes it where you need to enter a command each time you speak to talk globally, some make players pay to do this but id rather this one not, also the server ads in the chat need to either be once every 20 min. or every hour as it makes it to where messages get put further up the chat and the chat moves so fast anyways the message disappears like magic.
other than that those are the only things i can think of. for now i await any ones response.

For example, a portal may be described as: Floor 3, Blue row, Coal section. Or something like that.
When you join a town, you should ask the mayor how to find the town portal, or walk back through the portal and investigate this yourself.

A mayor's town is his castle and he is the king. That is just how it is on this server. Having it this way makes it much easier on the moderators. It is too much to ask of them to settle every dispute that comes up. Some mayors act like tyrants; avoid them. Others are amazing to live with; ask around and find them.

Again, I agree about the portal setup at spawn. Once again, the server owner preferred big and flashy to user-friendly.

There are ways to turn off the server messages. If you vote for the server, you get rewarded handsomely and the voting message goes away for 24 hours. Also, you can turn off the lotto and sg messages. Finally, there are some chat channels that you can leave if you prefer. Check the wiki for the chat commands.

@Poisonian - First, I would like to welcome you to ECC! For a little history, this server has been around for a little over 3 years and I would like to suggest that you take a few days to learn how things work as it can be overwhelming when starting. The Wiki (link at the top of the page) is a great resource if you will take a little time to read thru it. There is also an excellent selection of staff that are amazingly helpful and friendly.
You will find after you are here a while that the shops have been designed this way in order to reduce lag as much as possible and still provide an enjoyable shopping experience.
As for mayors, I assure you that you find pleasant players who own towns and are willing to help new users out. The best resource to find them is the forums under the Town Discussions or under the for sale section sometimes. I noticed you said you asked several times in the chat - on busy days, it is hard to get much attention there and if you are asking constantly (I am not saying you did) there are a lot of town owners that don't respond to what is considered "spammy" requests.
Patience is a Virtue - take some time, learn the server - I believe you will be glad you did!

1. Towns are fine.
2. The user market is perfectly fine the way it is.
3. We are not going to make ranks cost real money to buy.
4. You ask in /ch tr once every 3 min and wait patiently until a mayor offers your a plot etc. very 20 min is ridiculous.
5. The warps are fine.
6. Our chat plugins are just fine, just take some more time to get use to them. You can /ch g /ch tr /ch auc /ch vip (if donator) /ch sg (if in sg) /ch pvp (if in pvp) and so on. The chats are already command driven.

I am a Mayor and i will use my town however i see fit...there is nothing within the rules that i have to have people in my town and id prefer not to have people in my town because of certain reasons.
But why do you say that i shouldn't have my rank because of this? Was my ECC not worth as much as the people willing to let builder stay in there town? no...
Just cause someone doesn't respond to your request to stay in a town doesnt mean we should lose our rank, its not a requirement to take on people on your town and never will be...
I try and help out new players when asking for jobs and things, i steer them in the right direction because thats what i do as a mayor to contribute rather then letting people stay in my town...but to say we should lose our ranks for not letting people stay in there towns is ludicrous... -
