Getting Rid of AFK RulesWhat are you suggesting:
Taking away all rules that don't allow you to be afk.Why is this a good addition for EcoCityCraft?:
I am here today to present the idea of getting rid of all AFK rules, in real life I am a full-time employee, but I have a side gig that is a passive way of making cash. EVERYONE is always looking for a way to make a dollar while they are asleep, I think if we were able to give people a chance to do this in ECC we would see an increase in players being interested in trying to make a boat load of cash, this would allow more money to flow through the economy, spark more interest in the game for people who are not able to grind for hours a day, allow for more grand/expensive building to be done, and would show more players on the log throughout the day. I feel that if someone wants to run their pc 10-12 hours a day making money somehow passively, they should be more then welcome too.Other information:
Thank you for your time

Yes, let's allow AFKing to break the economy even more so :thumbs up:

The logical consequence of allowing AFK income is to nerf it so much that it doesn't have a major effect on the economy (e.g. via /sell reductions), which will obviously affect the other non-AFK income methods.
So... no. Please no.-

The economy is balanced based on players actively playing. If we invited people to afk, and didn't want to raise app prices yet again:
- Sell-hand prices would have to be drastically reduced
- Nstar exp prices would have to be drastically increased to stop magic tool flooding
- Block shop prices would have to go up again
- The mythic from Korok would probably need to be at least doubled in price

Absolutely not. Ecc is not to just be left on and left for hours. Its a grinding server, not an afk server. If we swing it to afk then everything needs to be adjusted to afk. People can already make insane amounts of money with just a bit of work with those magic tools. Afk does not mean keeping players, just means keeping bots online. We want players, not ghosts.

Block shop prices have already increased, by at-least 3x what they used to be. That didn’t cause an economy crash… sell hand prices are low in comparison to the current market value anyways, so that wouldn’t have to change. Nstar prices are super low as well, wouldn’t hurt for them to go up. I just really don’t think that it would affect the economy as bad as you think. I think making afking legal would increase the economy just like winterfest, maybe not quite as much, but it would be a similar effect. And I don’t think that was a bad economy to play in, it was quite fun. Money was rolling everywhere, people were into it bigtime, and for the server to stick around, that’s the kind of economy we need.

but why
Edit: okay, real reply now. I agree that ECC can be hard for new players to join, and that the ways to make money can be a bit grindy. I don't believe that allowing AFK farming is the solution, but rather treating a symptom of the true problem. What I would like to see, and what's been tentativly introduced through /warp jobs, are more ways to make money. Not just that, but creative ways to make money that are fun.
These ways should be activities that you can vary your playtime around. For a while we had sportsbook and stocks, and those were interesting ways to make money that didn't require you be on the server for hours. I don't really have a solution, I'm just putting my 2 cents in.
I should add that sportsbooks and stocks cannot be reinstated due to EULA-

Why would anybody want to come online and grind hours to make a quarter of what your bot did in a day, would be pointless, prices fluctuate depending on the amount of players and the demand for the desired items. Legitimate players would loose intrest and we would have a battle of the bots and very little social interaction with everyone being afk

I feel like there could be a balance, right now there’s no balance, either you play and make money or you don’t play at all. I feel like there could be a player wipe (if it’s possible) every few hours to eliminate 24/7 grinding. There’s ways we can balance the game play, it might be tricky to figure out, but Im very confident that if we found the middle ground it would be well worth it because we would bring in a whole new group of players.

I re-joined right before winterfest had started, Lost my old acct log in and had to make a new one. Got very invested into it during winterfest. And so did many others, but many others also lost interest not long after the event was over. That was an economy that I really loved to play in, and I wish it could be similar all the time. I feel like if someone figured out how to bring something similar back it would be very helpful for this server. But maybe my wishes will never come true, and it might not even be feasible.

If the server wants to regulate how much money is added to the economy via AFKing, there are two ways of doing so:
- Restrict what you're allowed to do while AFK, which you are specifically suggesting to remove.
- Reducing the /sell value of items, which affects everyone using this method.

I disagree my friend, the economy is not as brittle as you may think. The server took away one of the biggest expenses to the players ever (taxes) used to take 100s of millions of dollars (if not more) out of the economy each year, now we have that floating in the economy and I have noticed little to no difference. Allowing afking would have a much lower impact on our economy than that ever will, especially if we can find a way to moderate it. Being afk for a few hours at a time whether it be, farming, fishing, mob grinding, etc, will not turn this economy upside down.

I'm going to use the "10-12 hours a day" mentioned in your original post. Let's assume a player earns $10k/hour while AFK.
$10 000/h * 12 h/day * 365 days = $43 800 000
That's $44 million from one player AFKing for an entire year. With just 13 players we'll add more money than taxes ever removed. Now keep in mind that I assumed $10k/hour. You should be able to make significantly more than that (e.g. with AFK fishing), so those numbers already account for your caveat of "if we can find a way to moderate it".
