So, I have a lighting issue with my spawn build, and I guess it doesn't qualify as a question that can be asked of staff as part of the competition. I have the build largely done, but I have a lighting glitch on a significant part of the main "floor" near the portals. It looks like this at night:



I am not a technical wizard, I'm just a builder, and this has me so frustrated that I'm about ready to delete the build and withdraw from the competition. I have tried most of the solutions that I can find, and none of them work. To clarify: I can easily make this glitch go away by placing and deleting a block and thus (I guess) forcing a block update. But if I relog and come back, it's exactly like this again.

Can anyone help?

I've read online about there being some confusion caused by Worldedit -- that sometimes when there are blocks above something, and they get removed, there is some sort of glitch. I don't think it's a design flaw, because other areas with the same design have no problems... it's something totally beyond me, really.
