LANCASTER HISTORY THREAD
So, I'm sitting here at my computer while they tinker with the server, and I thought to myself "you should do something productive, clean out your screenshots folder." And I found all these old screenshots from before Lancaster was opened to players -- the original Lancaster town, just one little town. And I thought, wouldn't some of the regulars get a kick out of seeing these. Then I thought, why not have a thread for stuff like that? So, here we are.
Players, we can add and reply to this thread just like any other. Add your Lancaster memories.
Without further ado, Lancaster before opening day. Enjoy!
Looking west toward Lancaster Square from roughly where the Eastcaster gate is today. Dark blue house in the center was my original house, where Skygarden Tower is today. To the right is the original town farm, which we had to demolish because lag. The Mall is there today, aside from underground, where large portions of the old farm are down there in the dark.
Lancaster Square from the present site of Lancaster Tower. Notice the basement of the original town hall in the lower left corner. It was the last of the main public buildings to be built.
Another shot of the original town farm, looking west from the northeast tower area toward the Morecambe gate (on the right). The farm was six stories, two of them (the pumpkins) underground. It was a great farm, but because it was so nice, it was constantly in use and generated horrible lag. This prompted the donation of Culvercity in Legacy by @eyesee3 as the new town farm.
The Indigenous Peoples Museum. The village really was here first, and the ground inside the museum is the original hill it sat on, without any alterations except to build the museum. One of my biggest pleasant surprises is that no one has ever griefed the village buildings. It's possible that the little structure in the back to the right is @756airplane's first casino, and this picture was actually taken after the town opened.
The gate into what is now Southcaster, before it had even been purchased. The walls made a lot more sense aesthetically when it was just one town. Should have torn them down a long time ago.
Lancaster Square pre-lion, pre-trampoline, even pre-landscaping.
An aerial shot before any plots were sold.
The downstairs portal room pre-portals.
The "Great Hall" in my original house. I think we have public bathrooms bigger than this now, but I thought it was huge then.
Lancaster Square at night. I think the way the structure of the square has never changed is a tribute to good design. A town needs a central gathering space, and the square has really held up well through all the changes. I originally built the colonnades because I was afraid the square would seem too open. Compare it with the same shot (but upside down) today:
Hard to believe it's the same place. Good design leads to good outcomes.
Hope you enjoyed the pictures! Post some Lancaster history of your own!
